Blast From The Past...

Just a quick one this time...its 2.15am and I've got work in less than 7 hours time!

A couple of weeks ago, during our YA! Concurrent service, we had this amazing speaker all the way from California from 'Book of Hope' foundation, Pas. Matt Woody. A pretty amazing and dynamic young preacher who has devoted his life to God's calling. After the service, we had the chance to chit chat a lil' with him and found out that he himself was a ranger boy way way way back in those days...during the days of Buckaroos, Pioneers, Trailblazers and Trailrangers...remember those days, boys???

Interestingly enough, he was the Senior Guide for his outpost back then. Simply fantastic just talking to him about his experiences as a ranger, especially during camps, Pow-Wows and of course, Camporama! What he liked most about our RR is that its open to girls too...hehe! For your info, in the US, the girls join the Missionettes...

He was thrilled to see so many rangers in uniform during service that he just had to take a photo with some of us. Its great that our paths crossed, and we hope to bump into him in the near future! Many thanks to Pas. Nirhal for joining us too on that Sunday! God bless...

That's Pas. Nirhal (2nd from left) and Pas. Matt Woody right in the center at the back! Just lookout for a white dude in the pic...

KL#1 25th Anniversary Dinner...

Yes yes...I know I have not been updating the blog for quite some time...someone called me lazy. So tonight, I'm giving all of you a treat. 3 blog posts!!! Wooo hooo!! So whenever you want lots of posts, just call me 'lazy'...not too often la ok? Might not have anything to write about..unless you want to hear some comedy stories...about my life...

About 2 weeks ago, on the 18th of August, Royal Rangers Kuala Lumpur #1 outpost celebrated its 25th RR Anniversary, by organizing a dinner at the beautiful Tropicana Golf and Country Resort. What an amazing night, I'm telling you...allow me to share with you the story of their night...

A total of 11 leaders from Selangor #6 attended the dinner in support of their Anniversary. The night kicked out sharp at 6.15pm with a song presentation from their Discovery and Adventure Rangers. They sang their own rendition of a famous oldies...cant seem to remember the title of the song...nevertheless, a really good performance by the boys.

The Boys in action during the opening act...

Our table...we were glad to be there to support them! I was especially fascinated by the tripod stand...notice the diagonal and square lashing at the ends? All pretty neat looking...

Grace Loh, Cmdr. Sheila and Serena havin' a great time together...got food, surely all happy!

Cmdr. Lim Siew Hock...a Royal Ranger leader for 25 years! What an amazing achievement! More importantly, God's gift of faithfulness to this ministry. I was deeply moved when he spoke that night, bringing us back in time with stories of old right up to the present day. For him, it has always been about the rangers and reaching out to them. That's what that has kept him going all through these years. He's still wearing that ranger's beret that he received when he first joined the RR way back 25 years ago...What a blessing he's been. What an inspiration to us...Its my dream and desire to serve the rangers through this ministry for as long as my body is able to. And to see a man like Cmdr. Siew Hock, I know its going to be worth every moment of it!

Here we have Sr Cmdr. Jim Guneratnam handing over a cheque worth RM75,000 over to his dad, the Senior Pastor of Calvary KL for the new church building fund. Imagine this...their outpost managed to raise up that amount of money over a period of time! What an achievement!

The leaders from Sel #6 outpost who turned up in full support for the event! What a fantastic night we had...

And after a night of food and emotions, here's Cmdr. Zhi Fung getting excited over the water fountain...

Ah hah! Gotchaaaa!! Outpost Chaplain together with his lovely wife sharing their moments together...

Once again, a big congratulations to KL #1 outpost on their 25th RR Anniversary. Truly, it was a night to remember God's faithfulness, His goodness and the lives that were impacted through this ministry. All glory to God! I was truly inspired...

God bless...signing out for now, friends.

50 years and counting!

Ahh...its good to be back home, finally! After weeks and weeks of running around all over Malaysia...island hoping, paddy-field roaming, up north, to the west coast...it was pretty obvious that the spirit and festivity of Merdeka Day is very much alive and kicking. For those of you who live under a coconut shell, Merdeka Day is exactly 24 hours time!Get those fireworks ready, pop the bottle open, fly the Jalur Gemilang proudly, and have a teh tarik and nasi lemak, for goodness' sake!

Personally...its been an interesting drive for me over the past week. I've seen many people from many states, seen their lives, their city, their homes, and tasted their food. This trip also gave me time to do lots of thinkin and soul-searching. And one of the most interesting questions I started asking myself was this...

What truly makes us Malaysians?

Is it the nasi lemak and teh tarik over-indulging? Our roti canai's and nasi kandar???

Our 'sinful' craving for late night mamak sessions every night? I'm talking about all year long...

Our passionate support for English football? Our countless amounts of fake jerseys... How we actually play is another story...

The fun of being a real 'banana'? Yellow on the outside but 'kwai lo' on the inside??

Or even being a coconut shell?? Brown on the outside but definitely white on the inside...

Our eating habits? We love to eat one meal a day...its called 'all day long'

As Malaysians, we can be proud of many great things our nation has achieved throughout its 50 years of Independance from the white fellas...As Klang-ites, we've got a few of our own personal records that worthy of mention...Throughout the years, Klang has been labelled many things...old town, jungle area, messy, noisy, gangster land (can challenge the Mafias), food haven, etc etc. Being a true Klang-boy, there are many things I love about Klang. Just to name a few records of our own, here's my top 10 list of Klang's greatest facts and attractions! Enjoy pals...

1) We have the longest parking lot in the world...The Federal Highway! Clap clap...(Klang ppl are the the main cause of it...) The jam basically starts from Klang all the way to KL.

2) The weirdest varieties of roti canai...

3) The biggest keris in the world....who needs it anyway?? If you're truly a Klang-ite, you probably would have NEVER visited the monument in your entire life!

4) The most notorious and infamous river thats worthy to be mentioned alongside other famous rivers such as the Mekong, Ganges, Thames...our very own Klang river! Steady laaaa...

5) A record number of crows...have you EVER seen this many before in one city??? You could probably take a shot in the air blindly, and you'll probably kill a few. Ever seen how this notorious wildlife use our clothe-hangers as part of their nest???

6) World-famous gangster groups...24 Top and 18 ar? or is it 18 Top and 24? Whatever laaa...just look around every school wall, and you'll see their signature mark.

7) We revere our pigs and take pride in boiling them in soup...producing one of the world's most unhealthy yet tasty dishes...

8) Our most famous war...the Perang Klang, between the Gee Hin and Hai San clans. Have not managed to find one Gee Hin fella so far. But I managed to find a couple of Hai San dudes...in church, some more!

9) We've got the most popular Little India in all of Malaysia! If you wanna see millions of Indians, here's the place to be. Who needs Mumbai?

10) We've also had the most famous Ocean supermarket...famous for all the wrong reasons though...:) Now closed down already. *sob*

50 years on...its time to ask ourselves, "What can I do for my nation?" Its times like these that our people need to pull ourselves together and get our act right. The greatest strength of this nation, in my opinion, lies in our differences. Where else can you find a nation in this world as unique as our own? Tell you the truth friends...we're blessed as a nation and we're definitely blessed to be in this land! So what do need to do? Firstly, start loving our nation. If we dont love our nation, how can we fully realize our purpose of being here and destiny that God has set for us? Always remember your beginnings...and never forget to thank God for this amazing land!

Secondly...love our people! Not only those of same epidermis colouration as us...but everyone! How can we ever start living as true Malaysians if we continue to allow skin colour and religion to continue to separate the people? Forget what other people say or do...it starts with us! Yes...you and me! We must understand that there is a purpose for everything and everyone. So start discovering your purpose and start living it!

Forgive me if you find this post quite random..cause it is! Many thoughts are running through my mind right now and I'm just typing it out as it comes...

Anyway, to celebrate this Merdeka, we'd like to wish our Senior Guide a very special congratulations, for being selected to serve his country! Well done, Ranger Shaun Lim! And just to prove that he's been one of the few thousand lucky ones, we've got the evidence for you!

Actually, this was the main purpose of this post...not sure how I ended up with the whole long article anyway...must be the Merdeka fever oozing its way in me!

Ok la...this has been one of the weirdest ever post for me. Hope you've had fun reading about it...and for all our ranger family members abroad, hang the Malysian flag proudly outside your window, and have a blast with the Negaraku on D-Day!

God bless!

Aug 2007 Prayer & Fasting Month...

My friends...

Alas...its been a long wait, but nevertheless, wait no more! I'm back...actually, I've been around all the while. Just that time was never on my side for the past 2 weeks. Ever had those days where nothing seems to go for you? Where everyone and everything around you seems to pass you by? Man...its just terrible! Gotta' slow down...Well, I thank God for these few moments He's given me to be able to share with you on what's happening in RR Selangor #6!

I trust that many of you are doin well and breezing thru your exams eh? And I also heard that the dreaded NS list is also on the verge of being announced? Monday I heard? Heard some rumuors that one of our dear friend has been enlisted...congratulations, my friend! Some time in the army will do you just fine! Haha...besides, some of you look like you could use some time in the army to shape up...

Well, as we all know that the whole of Malaysia is in the mood of Merdeka as we countdown to our 50th year of Independance from the UK boys! Everyone and everything seems to be going Merdeka-crazyy! Merdeka Sales, the premiership season is back (wooo hoo!! Come on, MU!), Merdeka competitions, etc etc etc, but most importantly, NECF has organized a 40-day Prayer and Fasting that will be run throughout the month of August and will end on Merdeka Day itself! In line with the prayer and fasting month, NECF is encouraging all churches is to pray for our nation, our government and our land of Malaysia. If there ever was a time for us to come together to pray for our nation, the time is now! With all the stuff that's happening around us, we gotta' constantly pray. So let's join in the nationwide effort and be a part of the generation that will make a difference in our church, communities and in our nation. Start fasting!!! And of course, pray!

We thank God that Royal Rangers was able to be a part of the launching of the prayer month in August last Sunday during morning service. A total of 15 rangers from the Adventure & Expedition age group participated in the flag march-in, a vital part during the praying for our nations session. It was simply fantastic to see these rangers proudly and majestically marching in, bearing the Christian flag, our national flag and all the state flags of our nation. You all really looked good from up there! But what amazes me is the willingness and the heart shown by these rangers, who saw the need and agreed to help out on such a short notice. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you each one of you. Many thanks also to Cmdr. Andy who helped to coordinate the entire march-in. God bless!

Rangers who participated: Shaun Lim, Jason Ong, Simon Kong, William Ong, David Wong, Daniel Ng, Pei Jun, Melissa Tan, Michelle Lee, Kelly Yap, Jordan Yeap, Leonard Chee, Kevin Chin, Tessa Lim & Andrew Yew.

Pls do enjoy the pics below. Many thanks to Andrew for the pics using Cmdr Laura's new toy!Greater things ahead, friends!

Shaun and Kevin sharing a lighter moment during rehearsal...

Ahh..the ladies looking fine as always...

Even as Cmdr. Andy was trying to show them how its done, just look at what these ladies were up to???

Cmdr. Shie Yee & Jon Lee during morning worship practice...

Cmdr. Eric all smiles...

Cmdr. Jayson feeling oh-so-at-home behind the drums...my deepest condolences to you on the opening day defeat of Spurs to Sunderland. Last minute goal...what a pity! Hahah...Apparently he's the ONLY Totenham fan in GT. Anybody else out there???

Cmdr. Laura revving things up on the piano...

Cmdr. Reubs and his good ol' pal...

Shaun Lim leading the pack during the run-throughs. According to him, the toughest part was walking in a straightline, as he's totally intoxicated with Soya Bean milk...

Pei Jun and Tessa during the march in...steady la!

Jordan and Leonard deep in concentration...mainting the ant-line.

Cmdr. Gideon leading the congregation in a time of prayer for our nation...looks good from here, aint it?

Tell me friends....ain't this a gorgeous shot?? The rangers all lined up bearing the state flags...

More shots from the front. From the left to the right: David Wong, Mystery Man 1, Melissa, Kevin, Mystery Man 2, Mystery Man 3...

Another fantastic shot...wow, you guys really look good, I must insist!

A time of prayer for all the states. Somehow, when I looked at all the flags lined up, God just began to speak in my heart and showed me new things. Same nation, same flags, but a new blessing and passion for our nation!

Some of our best rangers around...Simon and Daniel Ng. Well done, lads!
