POW WOW 2011 – INVICTUS

“What an amazing camp it’s been!” Many of us will look back at the four days spent together in the 3rd RR Central District Pow Wow with fond memories and will remember the good times in the coming years. With the last Pow Wow almost five years ago, this was a much anticipated camp and many rangers were thrilled at the prospect of experiencing the traditions, uniqueness and life-changing experiences the Pow-Wow was guaranteed to offer.

With a total of 350 rangers, leaders and visitors, the scene was set for a really fantastic camp in the Malaysian summer. We chose the same campground that hosted one of our previous Pow Wows - open fields, lush green forests, cooling streams and blue skies greeted the rangers as they arrived by the busloads.

Fancy pitching your tent in the rain? Well, that was exactly what happened on a very wet first day. The rain was a pleasant welcome, and it certainly did its part to cool the surroundings and made tent pitching a little bit more fun and challenging.

Even as night dawned upon us, the campsite turned into a mad hatter’s party, with rangers parading their most unique and creative head gear for the Pow Wow Council Fire. Hat’s off to the rangers for making it a fun-filled night and for their parading their colorful and quirky head gear!

Throughout the day, various challenges and games were organized for both group competitions and individual challenges. The four main groups in the camp (Red Axe, Yellow Spear, White Shield, Blue Sword) certainly did their part to add color and competition with victory chants and songs, parading of colors and armory, battle moments, display of macho-ness and bruising encounters. In the end, the war was won by White Shield. To quote the words of the victorious group Leader, “Defense is the best form of attack!”

The afternoons presented the campers with the opportunity to participate in Individual physical challenges, traditional games and crafts, bamboo rafting (and mud walking if you fell overboard), flying fox, surfing, and learning the tricks of the trade at the FCF trading post! For the speed lovers and tree-dwellers, there was even a wheel-barrow race and rope climbing challenge! Speaking of memorable moments, who could forget the ‘Love your banana’ game and the Pow-Wow Court of Justice!

Amidst all the various activities, the outdoor night rallies remain the main highlight of the camp, and for many, it is a very special experience. Surrounded by nature, hearing the insects buzz, the glow of the moon and stars above… the silence of the night was broken with the sound of the rangers worshipping and praising God in unison, across all ages, in awe of His creation and power. Our camp speakers, Rev. Davidson, Pastor Mike Kuna and Commander Terence delivered God’s Word with such conviction and power to the various age groups. We thank the Lord for the 24 lives that accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and for the many rangers who re-dedicated their lives back to God, The theme of the camp, Invictus, echoed throughout the night rallies. Our challenge as Christians after the camp is to live as an over comer - victorious, undefeatable, unconquerable in today’s modern society.

Being a part of the Pow Wow camp committee has been such a blessing and rewarding experience to be able to give the rangers the opportunity to express themselves through outdoor activities and skills, to learn about teamwork, and to allow God to touch their lives… most importantly, to move forward together as one in the Royal Rangers ministry. Do keep a lookout for the ‘BIG CAMP’ happening next year – Camporama 2012! We hope to see you there!

Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary Day Trip!

On the 5th of June, on a bright and clear Saturday morning, the Adventure Rangers of Selangor #6 organized a day trip to Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, for a day of fun-filled adventure and outdoor activities. There were many excited faces that day and all of us did not know what kind of suprises were waiting for us. There was plenty of hiking, eating and lots of leech bites. The highlight of the day was the Elephant rides.

A total of 17 Adventure Rangers and 6 leaders attended this day trip and we're glad to say that everyone had a fantastic time bonding and going thru the day's activities together. All of us gathered in church at 7am and before leaving in 2 vans, were divided into 2 patrols (Gajah Biru patrol and Gajah Putih patrol). They were asked to make a report about the whole trip from the beginning till the end.

We left church at 7:30am and reached the elephant sanctuary at 10:30am. The 1st activity of the day was feeding the elephants . The rangers took the opportunity to feed the elephants sugar cane and touch the elephant's trunk . After feeding the elephants, the next activity was the elephant rides. For all the rangers, this is the 1st time riding an elephant. They were excited indeed.

Next on the agenda was jungle trekking. It was a hike trough rugged terrain, through mud, and finally had to cross a river to reach our destination which was the Deer Farm. As we were hiking, the group suddenly broke into 2. As the 1st group was fast, and got separated from the 2nd group. The 2nd group had to wait for them as the guide went to search for the 1st team.

We had hiked for almost 3 hours. We were so tired at the end of the jungle trekking. Many of us also had leech bites on our legs. After washing up and changing into fresh clothes, we finally had time to sit down and have our lunch and snacks. After a group photo, we left at 5:30pm and as we were coming home, we got caught in a terrible traffic jam for 2 hours. We stopped at McDonalds in Subang Jaya for dinner...a treat from the commanders. With our bellies full, we finally reached home at 10pm.

JTC 2010 - We Made It!

Well, what can I say...

18 rangers from Selangor #6 attended the recently concluded National Junior Training Camp. They went through tough times, experienced fatigue like never before, constantly rushing to complete their projects, stayed together as a patrol and lived as a unit, suffered together and triumphed as a group...and emerged from this camp as young men and women, the leaders of today and the future!

From all of us here in Selangor #6, we salute each and everyone of the 88 JTC trainees who successfully completed the JTC training program! Congratulations, and may you continue to mentor and lead many others in the footsteps of Christ! Keep the RR flag flying high...

Discovery Rangers Skytrex Adventure!

On the 29th of May 2010, the Discovery Rangers of Selangor #6 organized a day trip to Bukit Cahaya Recreational Park, Shah Alam for a day of fun-filled adventure and outdoor activities! To sum it up, it was basically a all-in-one package! There were plenty of hiking, cycling, eating and the highlight of the day was the Skytrex Adventure!! :)

A total of 16 Discovery Rangers and 8 leaders attended this day trip and we're glad to say that everyone had a fantastic time bonding and going thru the day's activities together! Enjoy the pictures, courtesy of Cmdr. Shie Yee!

Well...what can I say, it's been a fantastic day out for these kids and the commanders too! Apart from the outdoor adventures, it was also a great day of bonding between the leaders and the rangers, sharing many memorable moments together which we will remember for a long, long time to come!

Many thanks to all the commanders who made this trip possible and for ensuring the safety of the rangers throughout the entire duration of the trip. It's been a fantastic trip this time, and we look forward to the next outing with much anticipation.

E-Rangers Survival Camp 2010!

On the 17-19th of March 2010, the Expedition Rangers of Selangor #6 GTAK held its annual ER Survival Camp (plus another night of low-impact camping). A total of 18 rangers and 6 commanders attended this year's edition of our much-awaited Survival Camp held in an undisclosed location in KKB. And what an awesome camp we had this time! 3 fantastic days of valuable camping and survival experience.

As part of the requirement to complete the Silver Wilderness Survival merit, the rangers were required to go for a overnight camp in the forest, build their own shelter from native materials, catch and cook their meals, start a fire without using matches, keep the fire going all night long, and most importantly...survive the night! Well, I'm glad to say that all 18 of them made it through the night extremely well and we're all really proud at how they performed out there! Well done, boys and girls...

RR National Leaders Conference 2010

The RR National Leaders Conference 2010 took place in Glad Tidings Assembly Klang on 27th March 2010 and we thank God for a successful event, that left many of us excited at the prospect of what God has in store for us for the RR ministry here in Malaysia.

It was such a joy and blessing to see leaders from every outpost represented at the NLC - Sel #1, Sel #6, Sel #7, Sel #13, Melaka #1, KL#1, KL#3, and friends from Taiping and Cross Power Tabernacle, USJ. A total of 100 leaders were present and we had such a good time praising and worshipping God together, and praying for this ministry.

National Commander, Pas. Gideon Lee then took the stage to share with us the vision and plans that God has laid upon his heart for the RR ministry for the next two years. The message was one of hope and faith, and was themed 'God Has A Plan'. Challenging the leaders to unite and come together and to press on, we believe that we are at a vital junction to take this ministry forward and to continue to reach out to kids and youths thru the RR ministry.

My Testimony - Kevin Chin

Please do take some time to read this testimony from Cmdr. Kevin Chin. All glory to God!

Hey guys, as the title has spoken my intention in this post....I crashed a plane last friday around 5pm in Kuala Terengganu. As you can see that I am typing this email shows that I'm alive, fine, well, and unharmed, all glory to God for His grace, mercy and protection. For your info, I will be based in Kuala Terengganu detachment which is still under my flying school for maybe around 2 months.

Here is how the incident happened. It was my normal solo flight and I was doing circuit and landings which is just take off, fly around the airport and land, then take off again for another round. The flying pattern is the same as the horse race circuit so that's why they call it circuit and landings. The purpose of this flight is to practice different type and style of landings.

Ok, back to my flying now... after I took off, I made my first landing which is the normal landing ( with landing flaps )and manage to land the aircraft nicely and properly. Then I put full power again for another take off for a flapless landing ( this is to practice for emergency situation where the flaps is not working). After I touched down, I bounced up quite high and decided to cancel my landing and put full power as all the instructor would advise to put full power and make another try instead of trying to save a screwed up landing.

The nose attitude climb for flapless is higher than the normal take off. So I misjudge the nose attitude where I put it too high and stall the aircraft where the aircraft lost its lift force. Then the aircraft swirl to the right and landed heavily on the grass and stopped by the fence. The plane just had a nose wheel and propeller damaged, and slight crack at the tail. The wings and the rest of the plane's body are fine.

When this thing happened, I felt that God was with me all the time. He gave me the peace in my heart and assures me that I'm able to make it unharmed. Even after this accident, I still felt His peace. By the way, I'm not the first accident, there has been accident in the beginning of this year and a few last year as well. A lot of people says that I'm very lucky to escape unharmed and asked me whether I prayed a lot. They also said that God must have loved me so much and all these questions came out from malay lips. So I wanna ask u guys a favour to pray for me as I continue my training. Pray for His protection and wisdom to be upon me and also able to graduate without any delay. Hopefully by July or August.

Learn To Fly...

Greetings, friends!

Today, RR Selangor #6 (once again) is deeply saddened by the fact that we have lost yet another one of our dear commander to Melbourne, Australia. This time, its Cmdr. Huei Lin's turn to say 'Goodbye Malaysia, Howdy Melbourne'! We thank God for giving her this fantastic opportunity to further her studies and we pray that God's strength will always be upon her and her family. We look forward to your return in 4 months time! Till then, God bless and continue to live strong for Jesus.

p/s: Looks like someone's gonna' be a very lonely man in the coming months...;)

Not forgetting another one of the Freakoz members who has left the nest and found her way all the way to the Big Apple, New York City! Please do keep our dearest Cmdr. Amy Tan in your prayers, even as she furthers her studies in the USA. I heard she's studying Actural Science...which is actually really hard! Pray for brains and wisdom. Thanks friends!

And finally, its time to remember the Flying Iban...Cmdr. Daniel Seliong! He got lost and somehow managed to find his way all the way to Melbourne, Australia. We wish him all the best even as he pursuits his dream to be the finest architect in Klang, giving Cmdr. Kenny Chin a run for his money. Heh ;) God bless you, bro. We'll definitely miss all the BNO moments, and in memory of you...we'll score a couple of good goals this sunday. Cheers!

Hello Rangers and friends!

One more day to the Chinese New Year! I can already hear the Tiger roaring anxiously in the distance...for all those travelling back to your hometowns near and far, please do drive safely and have a great time with family and friends!

As you all know, according to the Chinese calendar, 2011 marks the year of the 'metal tiger'. Here's some interesting traditional Tiger attributes/associations:

Ruling hours: 3am - 5am (your best hours??)
Motto: "I win!"
Gemstone: Diamond
Colours: Green, Red
Food: Bread, poultry

And so, to all those Tigers out there...have a roaring New Year ahead! Whatever you do, please do not attempt a 'Tiger Woods', ok? ;)

We'd also like to take this time to say a big farewell to our beloved Cmdr. Cheryl Lim, who's right now enjoying her life is Melbourne, Australia. She's gone there to further her studies, and we hope that she will be back for good one day (with a husband, and 3 kids). All the best in your studies and God bless you in all your endeavours. From all of us here in RR Sel#6, we'd like to say to you that we'll definitely miss you loads!

Before I end, just a reminder to all of us to continue to pray for Cmdr. Huei Lin's mum who's still in ICU in Klang GH. Continue to believe in the power of prayer, and ask for God's divine intervention upon her life. Thanks friends!

Good evening, rangers and friends!

Yes...I'm finally back from my pilgrimage, and ready to blog once again! Topic of the night - RR Selangor #6 22nd Anniversary! Wooo hooo! It was a blast...wouldn't you agree? :)

And so, we finally turned 22. Its been a long wait, its been a long year...but the day was definitely worth the wait! 1st November 2009...definitely a good day to celebrate our outpost's birthday. The Adventure Boys kicked things off with the Opening Ceremony...good stuff, boys!

Some traditions will remain forever! I reckon even if he's 50 years old, ranger David Wong will continue to give a hug to the person giving out the merits! Well done, lad. I'm sure Pas. Gideon enjoyed the hug! :)

RR Selangor #6 is glad to inform you that we will be turning 22 yrs old in exactly 11 days time! Woohoo!! We're excited, the rangers are excited...so do come and join us in a time of celebration and recognizing the rangers for their fantastic achievements throughout the year 2009! All are welcome to join us.

Story of the day - by Senior Commander Reuben

Today has been an interesting day. During lunch hour, I made my way into Lian Pang Stationary Shop right in the heart of Klang town, hoping to finalize the souvenir orders for our upcoming RR anniversary. Even as I was waiting for my turn to speak to the lady boss, I was just looking around at name tags and pin samples...and low and behold, guess what I saw? Haha...you'll never believe me. I saw an interesting name tag which read, "Shaun Lim - Lieutenant Commander". How cool!

And immediately I took out my phone and took a picture of this unforgettable moment. Haha. Twitter-ed and Facebook-ed it immediately! Many thanks to the iTechnology...:) And yes, the lady asked me, "Is this your friend?" And I said "Yes." She laughed. "Apasal dia suruh buat name tag, tapi tak datang collect?" Haha...more fun and laughter. And so I told the lady that Shaun Lim has left the country cos' he's wanted by the police for some petty crimes.

Don't believe me? Just step in to Lian Pang, you should still see his name tag used as a sample on the display board.

For all those rangers and commanders in Klang valley seeking to make a name tag for yourself, and if you're looking for a sample of how the RR leader's name tag should be, do visit Lian Pang shop ok? His name is there together with a few other blacklisted friends...Helmeey, Tham Choy Yee, Wan Aishah, Pustakawan...

How's the day been for all of you? So I heard the good news...it seems that there's a huge bunch of 15 year-olds, form 3 kids running wild all across the nation! PMR finally over eh? Oh well...time for all of you to celebrate your well-deserved break! And oh...my condolences to ranger Trisha, cos I heard the battle ain't exactly over for her! We're praying for you, kiddo! :) As for the rest, go wild and enjoy yourselves before the results are released...cos for some of you, this might be the last time you ever celebrate in a long long time to come! Haha....

From all of us here in Selangor #6, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate 3 of our excellent rangers who have successfully completed the requirements to earn the Gold Medal of Achievement! The GMA is the highest award that a ranger can earn, and we want to extend our congratulations to the 3 of them. They are Daniel Ng, Kelly Yap and Low Lee Yee! Hoooray!! Once again, well done for sticking on the very end, and for putting your heart and head into this. God bless and I do believe He has great plans for all of you!

Yes, I'm back once again from isolation...solitude is good for the soul! Well, then again...no man is an island. Its good to be back and be able to keep this space alive with the latest news and hapennings in town and in outpost Sel #6. So tell me...how has your week been? Seems like everyone is busy getting ready for war with the test papers and PMR especially. All the best to each one of you ok?

Good morning rangers!

Yes, its early in the morning right now (more like 1.30am)! And if you're still up and awake from all that rendang and lemang, its about time you got yourself back into shape. Selamat Hari Raya to all our Muslim brothers and sisters. We hope you've had a good long break so far. And of course...we appreciate the long holidays too. Oh well, its back to work for me tomorrow! Sad sad...you school kids are still off for the week eh? Tsk tsk...you guys have like...20 weeks of holidays in a year???

Some info for you...September is usually the most celebrated month in the calender year. All you gotta do is take a look at the amount of birthday celebrations and Sept babies that popped out many many years ago! Man...you guys are like mushrooms and hamsters! Oh well... nevertheless, its still a worthy cause for celebrations, right? And I'm all for celebrations! Time to get the ball rolling...

Ms. Casovia Khoo! Yup, happy birthday to the lil' miss mischief who celebrated her 15th birthday on the 19th of Sept. Continue to shine and rock on for our Lord Jesus in all that you do k? God bless!

And next up, we have my favourite man....this buddy of mine grew up together with me, soared high and crawled low together with me through thick and thin, and we're glad to see that he turned out alright in the end, eh? :) He's one-third of the Amazingly-Good-Looking-Men-Club (the other 2 members names shall not be mentioned for safety reason), and he turned 27 yrs old on the 22nd of Sept! Lets give a biggie up to our beloved Cmdr. Eric Teh!

Up next, we have the indestructible, Mr. Energizer Bunny of Sel #6....Mr. Yap Zhi Fung! He turns ???...errm....how old is this bunny anyway? Official DOB is on the 25th of Sept! Opps...its a surprise. So please keep this to yourselves ok? Hehe!

GT Klang Sportsman Of The Century - he plays futsal, football, basketball, badminton, squash, marbles, Big 2, golf (coming soon), UNO, 4D....etc etc.

The dude on the left....Benson Lee! For once...he looks like a man, dont you agree? He finally ditched his high-school boy look. Haha....well, he turns a manly 15 yrs old on the 26th of Sept! Do wish the MAN 'Happy birthday' ok? :) Have a great PMR battle, bro. God speed.

And finally...to top off the Sept celebrations, we have the youngest baby of the lot, Mr. Chan Chiew Hoe! As you can see, his favourite pastime is having another man clinging on to his back all the time. I seriously wonder whats going on there...haha! Have a blessed birthday on the 27th of Sept! Opps...that was meant to be a surprise too! Hahaha...

Hey hey friends!

Well, isn't this one of the best working weeks of the year? Its like....celebration mood all over! And I heard you school kids got an extra day off tomorrow, eh? Good stuff, guys. :) Well, September is truly a month of celebrations...be it birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, exam-freedom, school holidays....dont you just love Malaysia? Haha. For those who are on a puasa period, hang in there friends...just a few more days to go before you can eat till the cows come home! (but please no walking around town with a cow's head ok?) Remember...think 1Malaysia. Tolerance, understanding, meeting each other halfway.

A quick shoutout to a couple of very very important people in our lives who will be celebrating their birthdays this month of September 2009! Firstly, a very Happy Birthday to Mr. Jojo Yong @ Brownie...! He's one-quarter of the Brownie Quartet in GT Klang, so he'll definitely get a mention here in the RR Blog. Haha. If you see him, he looks like a quiet guy...but deep down in his mysterious mind, I'm sure he's got a plan to take over the world brewing in there! Jojo celebrated his big day on the 14th of Sept. God bless bro...and may you grow up strong to be the best chocolate-looking man in town. Cheers!

Good morning, rangers!

What a way to usher in the (low key) Merdeka Day celebration! Yes...on the 31st of August 2009, a bunch of totally crazy and fired up Expedition Rangers, commanders and friends decided to have a shootout at each other, all in the name of fun and glory! Yup...we certainly had a blast of a time shooting and killin' each other in a game of Paintball! Imagine this...waking up at 7.30am on a public holiday! Sigh...I dont even wake up this early for work...

And so...after the 32 faithfully gathered in church by 8.15am, we finally made our way to TT Sports Park at Subang Jaya for a morning of absolute thrill. This place is located at a very strategic spot, mind you. Should you decide to jump and roll around like Rambo (and tear your knee ligament in the process), or decide to shoot yourself in between the eyes for fun, there's always SJMC nearby for that! Haha. Remember - Safety first! :)

Needless to say, once the game started...it was every (wo)man for themselves. Rule of the game - Last Man Standing. We divided ourselves into 4 groups, did a lil' cam-whoring and then things got underway. Chaotic, tactical, brutal, and adrenaline-pumping! Perfect way to start off the day, wouldn't you agree? :)

The ladies were fired up for this event. Dunno why...but they wanted to take this opportunity to vent their frustration at some of their favourite commanders and rangers! Haha...

The teams gather in an 'anak ayam formation', waiting for the marshall to shout the countdown before all hell breaks loose! Haha...some even died right at the start...barely 10 seconds into the game! Tsk tsk...

If my memory serves me right...that looks like Amy Tan, who was brave and tiny enough to make a run for the middle bunkers un-noticed!

Tag team in action! To win this game...going solo just wont do it. You need to communicate and cover your teammate's back at all time, supporting and backing up each other esp when it gets hot out there!

In life...you will encounter some people who are crazy, some who are absolutely mad, and some who are beginning to lose it. Here's a good example of someone who's almost losing it completely. Good morning to you, folks and rangers!

Its 2am now! And yes, I'm back with another one of my 'Inspirational Wednesday' posting. Kinda' missed out on it last week, so here I am with two very special and heart-warming videos, specially for this Merdeka season. I dont know about you...but whenever I watch these award-winning videos, it always moves my heart and puts a smile on my face...knowing that if only these scenes could replay once again in our lives, wouldn't the Malaysia of today be a much better one? Just a little something for us to think about...

I've watched this video many times over...and its really one that speaks of a united Malaysia. And just to put a smile on your face...listen to kids' conversations at the end. It's hillarious!

Good morning friends...

Firstly, allow me to wish all my beloved citizens of Malaysia@Boleh-Land a very Happy Merdeka Day! Yes, its been a another fantastic day of rest for all Malaysians, and plenty to look forward to in the coming years. Much left to be desired, rather...:) And to all our fellow citizens abroad, remember to belt out your best rendition of our beloved Negaraku. And please make sure you do not do anything wise and end up in Kamunting under the ISA ok? ;) Remember, in Malaysia...everything BOLEH!

For me, the Malaysian War Memorial brings back the lesson from schooldays...remembering how our forefathers and champions of the past dedicated their lives for one common cause - to unite the races in Malaya, to form an independent nation, and to bring forth prosperity to the nation. It was a journey that started out with many uncertainties and fear, but nevertheless...the most important thing is to always take a step forward. And we as Malaysians certainly did.

Many years down the road, let us not forget the sacrifices and the many battles fought in the past that has led us to where we are this day. In all things, give thanks to the Lord. Thank Him for this nation, thank Him for being placed in this blessed land. Thank Him for this place we call 'home'...

Good morning, rangers and friends!

Yup...the time now is 5am! Oh well, today's a Saturday and its also Merdeka weekend (which means its gonna be a long weekend for all of us!). Hoooray! For those of you rangers in Aussie and NZ-ie...too bad for you. Go celebrate your National Sheep/Kangaroo day ok? Haha. I guess its time I broke my silence and gave you guys some valuable and latest updates on whats been happening around town, and all across the nation!

Well, for starters...this one paragraph is specially dedicated to my buddy Samson, who's finally out of the hospital and getting some good rest and alone-time, recovering from the recent flu bug. Many thanks to all those who prayed around the clock for healing and a speedy recovery. We hope to see him around soon enough and let him share his story of personal victory and faith...amen! You're in our prayers, bro!

Well, its been more than 2 months since we had a blast of a time in Camporama 2009! I thought I'd take a few moments to post up some memorable shots and share with you some inspiring moments we've had together in the camp. Most of these pics tell of amazing times together, and moments that will be remembered for a long long time. And yes, this will be the last post for Camporama 2009, and we look forward the the next national gathering with much anticipation.

For all those who made it for Camporama 2009....Jaiho and Ohaiyo! :) Long live the memories!

Everytime I look at this pic, it just puts a smile on my face. A city beautifully transformed overnight, by people who were dedicated and committed to giving the very best for Camporama 2009! To all the advanced party team, this one's for you!

Who could forget this moment...when President Roosevelt (Hans) gave his inspiring speech to the Americans, signalling their intent to put an end to the war, being surrounded by photographers and reporters. Soo so cute!

China City Archway! Its been great fun having the Chinese people in Camporama 2009! Great sportsmanship and friendship displayed throughout the camp. God bless all of you, KL#1! Intercity Champions...you guys deserve it! :)

Here's Cmdr. Kenny going back to his roots and trying his luck with the chinese top! Not too bad, I reckon. Looking at this pic, seems like he's on a good start!

Everyone loves the water sports! Just look at Kelly's expression and you'll definitely agree with me! Haha....Su Vien was pretending to paddle hard for the cameras. :)

And yes, everyone remembers our beloved Sumo twins! Throughout the camp, the Sumo boys/girls have been a mascot for Japan City, and a real crowd-puller. Just getting yourself into the suit and having a fight with your mates, or watching your friend bump around in it puts a smile to your day! Thumbs up, Japan!

Ahhh...my 'favourite' station...the Sushi Palace. Beautiful, elegant, and serene...everything seems so perfect until they forced me to pop down a sushi filled with wasabi! Haha. Naturally, not a very manly sight for me after that...:)

The night rallies were awesome! Its simply amazing to see how God moves in the heart of His people. It was a very special moment seeing the leaders praying for their rangers, and the rangers in return praying for their commanders. Our prayer is that this ministry will continue to raise up leaders for the next generation!

India City...bright and colourful as ever! Here's Su Vien keeping in touch with her Indian side and having fun with the hanna drawings. Looking at this pic suddenly made me hungry for some banana leaf rice. Anyone wanna join me?

Another mascot for Camporama 2009...the infamous Australian Kangaroo (which looks like a dog)! Who could forget the moment when the poor creature had to be retired during the morning parade due to lack of oxygen...:)

Australia City in all its splendour! Champions - Best Archway Competition. Awesome stuff, guys...definitely one of the most photographed scenes in camp!

Awww...isn't that a lovely sight? The cheetah-boy sleeping next to the tiger. Haha! For me, this was personally one of the most memorable moments during camp.

The entire Sel #6 family got together in a circle to pray for one another and for the group! There is power in prayer...and power in unity. Remember to always stick as ONE.

Alright...I'm almost done here. Its been a hectic 3 weeks for me. Took a short vacation to give myself a breather from the busy-ness of life. A week later, we were all at church camp 2009 in Awana, and it was absolutely fun and refreshing being with God and His people. And yes, here we are...Merdeka weekend! Main item on the list - Rest & Relax!

All the best to the 12 brave rangers who will be undergoing their Sel #6 Best Ranger testing in less than 4 hours time! You'll be sure to receive updates and news concerning this stressful and fun activity! Let's hope they all come out of it unscathed and alive! Haha...all the best, rangers! Buona Serra rangers and friends!

Yes...its a beautiful night indeed! Bright lights, glittering skies, shooting stars...The time is now 2.09am, and here I am...chillin' and it definitely is an auspicious day to blog about the latest happenings around the world of Klang. For those of you that are gungho enough to stay up and catch the Perseid meteor shower happening in the early hours of Thurs morn, all the best to you! Its funny how the word 'Meteor' sounds so cool...but when you translate it to BM, its actually 'Tahi Bintang'...

And so...being the astronomy enthusiast and the astronaut-wannabe that I am, I decided to go out of my home to see if I could catch a glimpse of the star cr@p falling out of the sky...and yes, I did feel something fall gently on my face...yup, it was the rain. :) The sky seems to glow with a bright orange shade, and clouds fill the skyline...so I guess its a no-show for the meteorites tonight. No worries friends...when one star fails to show up, another 'star' appears - Elvis Presley. Absolute delight! Who wants the CD? :)

Oh well...tonight its all about STARS! And yes...over the past couple of days, we've had a bunch of friends who celebrated their special day! Yesss...a big shoutout of HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all 3 of 'em who grew yet another year older and wiser. From all of us here in RR Sel #6, the Blog Team and Elvis Presley....we'd like to wish you a very, very Happy Birthday! And oh...a point to note - there was actually some sort of fireworks display tonight that started while we were in Prayer Meeting. Not sure if these 3 ladies had something to do with it....hmmm...

First up, we have the smallest of the 3 stars, typically known as a 'red dwarf star' - Michelle Lee! Young, small...but highly resourceful and determined! I smell a GMA coming, friends...:) Happy birthday, yea!

As Beyonce would say, "To the Left....to the Left!" And to our next bright star, we have Cmdr. Phaik Joo (and her sidekick, Cmdr Amy Tan!) Yes, its been a fantastic ride for you so far, and we're glad you made it to being 19 years old! God bless...quickly go wish upon a shooting star, and hopefully you'll be able to catch some tahi bintang...!

And finally...we have the red giant star, who's luminosity is between 10 and 1,000 times that of the Sun, Happy birthday to Ms. Tan Su Ann!! Interesting fact...her initials are S.A.Tan...haha! How cool :)

Alright friends...enough of stars for one night. I'm already beginning to see stars and my vision is blurring. Its time for me to hit the sacks. The Elvis factor is really kickin' in..."Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again...tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight."

Dear Rangers and friends...

Its a beautiful Wednesday night at home. I just got back from home after spending the night in our Wednesday Prayer Meeting, together with our fellow church members and RR commanders. Its amazing to see what God is doing in our lives and in our church. If you dont already know it in your heart, God is definitely doin' something amazing in our midst. Just wait for it, friends...a fresh new wave of God's anointing and power is near! Believe it, and keep on praying!

Just thought I'd share with you something that really tugged at my heart. Somebody asked us tonight, "Young people, do you REALLY know God in your hearts? You THINK you do... but do you really KNOW who God is or experienced Him in your lives?" This got me thinking. And I had to think and dig deep inside to find the answer. All my life, I've known this person called Jesus. I know He's God. I know He's good. I know He loves me. I've seen Him do amazing things in the life of my parents and my grandmother...but what about me? I began to search deeper, I looked back at my life in a glance, I thought of those moments and incidences...and I know and glad to say that God is indeed real in my life...

But it doesn't stop there! Realization is one thing. Longing and yearning for more is a whole separate issue. Do you long to be in His presence? Because it is said in God's word...that in His presence, there is fulness of joy. Do you seek and long for His presence? Because it is said in His word that those who seek Him, shall find Him.

Take a moment and ask yourself this question, "Do you really know who Jesus is? Do you really know Him to be true in YOUR life?" I pray that even as you search for answers, that you will find Jesus to be so real in your life.

Even as I was thinking of what to type tonight, a friend gave me a youtube link to click on. And so, I did. When I saw the title, I told my friend that I have seen this video many times before. But interestingly, when I watched the video again...somehow God just began to speak to me. For all the times I've watched this before, I took away nothing from it. But tonight I believe God showed me something...and if you have the time, take some time to be alone by yourself, and when its quiet and peaceful at night, do watch this video and allow God to speak to you. And so...another weekend that was for all the die-hard Man Utd fans! What an amazing experience celebrating together with almost 100,000 fans in Bukit Jalil...the atmosphere was absolutely electrifying!! Especially when the score was level at 2-2. Heh. And yes...many thanks to the ex-Liverpool hero for saving the day! Lots more to come from you, Mr Owen!

Even at 3.00pm, the stadium was already buzzing with a tsunami tide of Red fans! I'm telling you, friends...the stadium was jam-packed!! Just look at this section....

Great to see you boys again...looking all red and cool with your face paints and all! My toilet paper plan didn't work out cos there were at least 3 FRU officers in front of me. Sigh...maybe next time la.

Hello to all my die-hard MU supporters and adoring fans!

Yes, the CHAMPS are in town (Owen, included). They're currently at KL, and having their practice session right now at Bukit Jalil Stadium, KL. There will be about 16 of us from Selangor #6 going for this match. If you're going, try to keep a lookout for us among the 70,000 fans! I know Selangor #7 will be there too...lets meet up boys, and spray some red paint all over town!

Wanna do something cool? Bring a toilet paper...soak it in red...hold one end, and throw it all the way from the top tier, letting it stream down all the way down. Imagine almost 50 rolls of toilet paper streaming down from the top tier. Amazing. Oh yea, dont forget to RUN after that, as security will be looking for you.

5th Malaysia Camporama 2009 - Part 3

Good evening, Rangers of Planet Earth!

Sunday night...relaxing at home, listening to some Macho Man music on my laptop, sipping on some coffee...absolute bliss! And yes, the hottest song in town is none other than Macho Man (by Village People), and I have had people requesting the mp3 version of this song. Notably Bryan and Julian. Haha. Soon it will be Kenny, and Eric, and Vincent, and the rest of you guys. Told you right? This song is gonna rock your dance floor...and will motivate you especially when you work out in the gym or at home.

I've had an amazing weekend in church, and I hope you've been blessed too! RR meeting was really good, and the only sad part is that it had to end. Looking forward to see all of you once again next week in Sunday service and RR meeting yea? And yes...lets not forget our dear friend that has passed on recently....our brother MJ. For those of you that are still in mourning...do cheer up. You've still got Elton John around wat. Heh.

Had a lil' scare yesterday...came down with flu, fever, backache, etc. Feelin' better today, however...we'll see how things progress over the next couple of days. SS2 durian on Sunday night, anyone? :)

Oh well, so whats been happening? Apart from the fact that the world is still in mourning over the departure of MJ, Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema...Hmm. Tough week for some, I reckon. And just to clarify, I have turned down the offer to be the next King Of Pop, even though some have said that when MJ sang the song 'Black or White', he was singing about me. Brings me to tears everytime I do the moonwalk. Oh well...time to move on. I've lost 2 good friends already...first it was Elvis, and now MJ. Thanks for the memories, guys!

Even though Camporama ended like 3 weeks ago, the memory still lives on and on! I'm still on a journey to bring the memories into the present, and once again...many thanks to all our excellent photographers and wannabes who captured these images for our viewing pleasure. Tonight's collection comes from the man they call 'Just Kech'...Do take time to enjoy the pics. Talk about a Japanese garden here in Raub? Welcome to Japan City @ Camporama 2009! Beautiful, serene, and I felt all Japanese inside just walking around the area...:)

To experience the full beauty of our city, you cannot afford to miss the view at night! Its simply gorgeous with all these extra lighting. Thumbs up! If ever there was a Beautiful City championship, I reckon we would have won it hands down!

Camporama Highlights - Here's Marcus Hood taking a shot at the Archery Range. Had loads of fun trying this out. Would have been more fun if we had some live targets running about!

Here's our Cmdr. Julian and his archery instructor aka 'adopted father', giving some pointers to the campers before they begin shooting. They make quite a good pair.

Ah huh! Here we have the Zhi brothers...Zhi Kang and Zhi Bin having a brotherly time at the lake kayaking together. Good stuff!

Check this out!! Cmdr Wei Chuan being the daddy of the team...here seen taking his kid, Gerald Chan for a ride out in the lake. Awww....so sweeet!

At first I couldnt recognize who's this dude....but then when I looked again closely, I noticed the way he smiled. And there's only one dude with that smile...Mr. Jojo!! Right??

Ok...no points for guessing who's this dude. Mr. Yap Zhi Kai! Such a poser and a happy dude...:) Good shot, Mr Kech! Was he stuck on the ropes???

And yes...even the oldies had a fun time playing in the water...here's Cmdr. Cheryl and Cmdr. Phaik Joo! I can still remember...during the last Camporama, they were only 13 yrs old! Wow...reaching Senior Citizen status ade (just like the old fella in Australia).

Here we have Mrs Lee and the kids! Great to have Serena, Elisa, Elena and Mr. Rambutan Joe Boy join us for Camporama 2009! Yes...you might be wondering where's Cmdr Gid? Well, I'm pretty sure he was busy zzzzz....what say you?

More smiles at the Kayak station. Its great to see everyone having a mind-blasting time together at camp. Maybe its because ppl get extra happy when there's water nearby??

Awww...such a sweet couple. Benson and Bryan. So happy being together with each other. Whole time during the camp...they're seen together. Sleep also together. Go makan, also together. And now...go kayak, also together! What's with boys these days...haih.

And when there's boys together...you'll definitely find girls together also. Here we have half of the Awesome Foursome founding members...Casovia 'the Ballerina' and Trisha the 'Sampah-kia'. How they got these names? I dont know. Seriously.

A scene from the Morning Parade. How cool is this?? Japan brought our very own legendary Sumo Twins!! These guys instantly became hits during Camporama and their presence will forever be remembered...together with the fainting Kangaroo. Haha. Here we have Jason Ong and Dan Seliong in the sumo outfits. Not an easy task, I tell you.

Hey hey...guess who came along! Yup...its the Indians!! Here we see Mr Singh ordering the Indians to riot and cause havoc during morning parade. Noisy bunch, I tell you! Haha. But thanks to the citizens of India, you guys really made Camporama 2009 all the more memorable!

"Oh oh!! I'm losing hair!" Denyse squeeks...Oh fyi, she was the co-sailor in our victorious cardboard boat race. Respect....

From this picture...I can tell that Hans has a lot of complains about his partner on the boat. Knowing Cmdr Kenny, I'm pretty sure he made/threathened/forced Hans to paddle by his own all around the lake. Haha...hats off to my Cmdr. Kenny! Thats the way, bro...show them who's boss!

More oldie goldies! Here we have Cmdr. Huei Lin and Cmdr Sherlyn having a splashing good time together in the lake. Great to have you join us for camp!

The scenes during the Camporama 2009 opening ceremony! Yup...indeed it was a colourful, noisy, gempak and absolutely rockin' morning during camp! Everyone was excited and looking forward to even more exciting days ahead! As someone said about MJ, "You could feel the electricity in the air...".

Ladies and gentlemen...presenting you, the GMA Achievers - class of 2006 - 2008! Congrats to everyone who made it this far. A special congratulations to Cmdr. William Ong and Cmdr. Kevin Chin who achieved this remarkable feat! Such a waste that Mr Pilot couldn't be here with us...guess the parachute plan or 'curi the plane' tactic didn't work out eh?

Here we have our honourable General Superintendant of the AOG Malaysia, Pas Ong Sek Liang presenting the special Camporama flag to Cmdr. Andy and the rest of the participating churches. It was truly an honour to speak to him, and hear him share his vision and admiration for the RR ministry. Together, lets continue to pray for him and stand together with his family in prayer.

5th Malaysia Camporama 2009 - Part 1

Greetings citizen of Japan!

Ohaiyo! Ohaiyo! Ohaiyo Oooo! Still got that sound buzzing through some corner of your brain? Wake up each morning to the sound of the drums beating to the war cry of your nation? Well, what can I say. CAMPORAMA 2009 ABSOLUTELY ROCKED!!! After waiting for more than 5 years, the first words that I uttered on the morning of 10th June was "Hello Camporama 2009! Its about time!!!" Trust me...Benum Hill Resort ain't seen anything yet!!

The place was buzzing even before the camp began. Almost 70 campers arrived a day earlier (and some even 2 days earlier) to do all the necessary pre-camp setup, getting their cities in order, and just soaking themselves in the whole Camporama spirit! Hats off to the Advance Party team from each church. Funny thing is...some actually thought it was an 'advance party'...as in fun and games, dancing, bbq, etc etc. Boy, were they so wrong!! Plenty of charcoaled-burnt faces, and mexican boys and girls running around...:)

Thanks to the many DSLR owners, this has been the most well-documented and photographed camp EVER! Haha. Well, I'm sure you're all more interested to see the pics that to listen to this old man rant away and tell you some grandma stories. Haha. Well, if you're the type that likes my grandma stories, do let me know. I got plenty of that with me. For those of you who love to see pics, do enjoy this first part of our Camporama 2009 story. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to CAMPORAMA 2009!! China, Australia, India and Japan welcomes you with arms wide open...and a couple of swords too!

Yes...just in case you forgot, Selangor #6 rangers were all citizens of the beautiful and serene city of Japan! This is a part of our lovely archway...

And yes, we even had a couple of real life Japanese-looking boys, who worked hard to keep the city spirit alive and kicking! Hats ON to Cmdr. William for watering the plants and keeping the cherry blossoms alive and pink!

The absolutely beautiful official Japan city flag...job well done to Cmdr. Sheila and gang!

The elegant cherry blossoms flowers that gave the entire city its distinct Japanese look and feel...many thanks to Cmdr. Amy Joy and team for pulling this off! We absolutely loved the 500++ cherry blossoms!

And the campers poured in, eagerly anticipating an awesome time in camp. Its been a good, long wait for some. And they were certainly glad that the wait is finally over! Souvenir distribution at the city area.

A total of close to 700 campers filled the conference hall during camp orientation! Man...what an awesome sight and just imagine the noise level once they got started!!!

The City Archway looks simple stunning and authentic! Many thanks to Cmdr Kenny for leading the design and construction team all the way. Guess your degree is real, after all! Haha. For those of you who want to see a real life pic of this, go to Google and search for 'Torii Gateway'...this is the EXACT replica! :)

Here's our little Ninjai, Cmdr. William Ong. He's got a superb self-made costume and armour vest. He was up to something funny, and so we told him to not play too near the fire after this shot. But he definitely has a superb outfit!

Have you seen a more beautiful city than this in all your Camporama years? I mean...Japan city was quite literally Japan itself! The entire city gave you a very peaceful and serene feeling...simply authentic!

Hey hey...guess who decided to share the limelight! Happy birthday to ranger Kelly Yap even as she celebrated her 16th birthday on the 1st day of Camporama 2009! God bless ya, Kelly!!

Just to inform you....there will be a National Camporama Prayer Meeting tonight (Tuesday - 2nd June 2009) in our church (GT Klang) at 8.00pm in MPR2. Commanders, leaders and children of all ages are welcomed to join in and be a part of this movement.

You want to see lives changed in this camp? You want to experience a truly amazing camp? You want to see God move in this camp? Then lets come together to pray and interceed for this camp. We have seen how God has constantly been providing for us and blessing us all the way...and tonight we want to come together as one church, uniting our hearts in prayer.

Teriyaki Kawasaki Suzuki Mitsubishi!! Sashimi Unagi Sony Pokemon Ultraman Ramen....

Well, as you can see...with all the buzz and fear about the H1 virus aka Pig Flu spreading around the globe, there's been another strain of virus thats hitting the land of Klang...its called the J Virus!!! Yeap...if you dont already know, its called the Japanese virus!! One clear symptom is when you start slurring and your language suddenly sounds all foreign, and you start muttering words such as Sanyo, Sumo, sushi, tuna mayo, kanimayo, Honda city, E-honda, Nakata, Sakae....

Imagine this: You wake up in the morning at 6am...and the first thing you do is to scream with all your heart "KAMIKAZEEEEEE!!!" Then you know for sure you've been hit by the Japanese Camporama flu!!! Haha...dont go lookin' for your kitchen knife after that ok? Take it easy, pals. In less than 15 days, the wait is finally over!! After months and months of waiting, we're finally down to the last 14 days before Camporama 2009!!

Please take note that this camp briefing is compulsory for all the 130 campers from Selangor #6! Yes..its going to be an exciting day as we have many things lined up for you all the way till 3.30pm. Come prepared to find out more on what to expect at Camporama 2009, and lets get the Japanese team spirit going!!

And oh...I noticed that this week and the previous week seems to be a good time for babies to be born! Oh well, we've got plenty of May babies this time around (more like every year). And so, here's a little tribute from all of us here in Selangor #6, to our beloved rangers and commanders who celebrated their birthday recently! God bless and hope you had a smashing week!

Up first we have our veteran, former Senior Commander, and much loved and respected friend...Commander Jeffrey Lim!! A biggie up to him for turning 56...or was it 65...on May 18th! Way to go, cmdr! Keep those years comin' in. God bless!

Just in case you're wondering, here's the one in the middle (seated).

In runners-up spot, we have the delightful Cmdr. Lisa Lee, who turned sweet-sour 19 on the 24th of May! God bless and all the best in your exams...

Not wanting to be left out...in 3rd place, we have Mr. Yap Zhi Kai!!! The indestructable, self-proclaimed 'John Terry' of Malaysia, the most lengchai man in Bukit Kuda area...yeap, thats what he claimed himself to be. God bless and blessed birthday! This sun we'll let you score for free ok? ok? :) He turned 16 on 25th May (which was like yesterday)...

And last but not the least, we have the Ms. Sherlyn Wong, who just completed her MUET (we hope she scores a Band 6), and who's officially 19 today!!! Woooohooo!! Happy birthday, Sherlyn!! God bless....

And so, there you have it friends. All the birthday boys, girls and babi(es). Its been a fruitful week (quite literally). I bet everyone's geared up for the match of the year, Catalans vs Red Devils. Choose your side well...but at the end of the day, dont forget that the trophy is coming home to Old Trafford. :)

Greetings rangers, commanders, and sad-hearted Blues and Reds fans! :)

The number for today: 25! Yes, a quarter of a hundred. 25 days to go till Camporama 2009! Its getting oh-so-close that my toes are practically wiggling in excitement! If you still have not signed up, whats up with you??? Why miss the opportunity to have a truly fun, outdoor camp surrounded by nature, together with over 500 rangers and strange looking friends from all over the nation!

This Sunday is officially the LAST Sunday to sign up for Camporama 2009! Make the right decision, and sign up ASAP! Till date, we have over 450 rangers who have signed up. Greetings rangers, commanders and friends of Selangor #6!

Yes yes...once again, my thousand apologies for keeping you guys and girls waiting in suspence and testing your patience and long-suffering abilities. I've been...around. Yes, been all around the country, travelling a lot and getting stranded at times, taking some time off to do some soul searching. And yes...I found myself once again. Its good to be back where I belong. Dont you agree?

As you (and the rest of the ranger world) already know, we're about 32 days away from Camporama 2009! Yes...I get that same jaw-dropping expression everytime I see the countdown...but hey, its getting closer and closer. Have you signed up??? If not, please do so by this coming Sunday! Remember, this camp is open to ALL rangers and non-rangers. Basically, anyone and everyone that has legs, hands and (half) a brain are eligble to sign up for this camp! Oh well, you get the drift...sign up ASAP!

You guys excited about Camporama?? Man...I just cant wait for it to happen! Been waiting for it for the past 5 years! Dont miss out on it, friends. Well, not too long ago, the Discovery Rangers of Selangor #6 had their very own Discovery Camp in GT Klang, and man...it was fun fun fun all the way! I had the priviledge to join two camps within a space of 3 days, and lived to tell the story! But hey...this time, the honour goes to the Camp Commander to tell you the story and share the adventure with you...its all yours, Cmdr. Chiew Hoeeeeeeeeee!

This main objective of this camp is to teach and strengthen the 6 core merits that the rangers are required to pass in order to get their Gold Eagle Medal. The 6 merits we have arranged for the rangers this camp includes cooking merit, fire craft merit, rope craft, lashing, tool craft, and also the compass merit.

Egg-smashing time!

The day started off with the rangers registering for the camp.. Lots of hype in the air. The camp kickstarted with a short time for patrol corner and then flows to the cooking merit class. Cmdr Grace lead the class and the rangers were required to fill up the food pyramid in their workbooks by cutting pictures of food from leaflets and pasting them in. Then we had lunch. After lunch, it was time for rope craft. Cmdr phaik joo lead this session. Now who knows how to tie a figure of eight? A clove hitch perhaps?

Then we had our fire craft session, the rangers were brought to a field and were instructed to build an A frame and start a fire together gether with their buddies. WE almost burn the field down i tell ya. You can see patches and patches of black grass around the field. =P

Then we proceed to have our cooking merit practical. The rangers are required to cook their burgers in their mess tin over a fire. Care for a delicious burger anyone?

After dinner, the rangers washed up and prepare themselves for the next agenda. The girls went on catching a movie while the boys go covert for special forces friendly match among themselves and finally against the cmdrs. Of course, the commanders pawned the rangers =P Wanna know more? Join our next discovery camp =)

Next day, rise and shine at 8am.. then off for breakfast and some drilling by the cmdrs. These guys can’t do seat ups properly i tell ya. Then we started the day with tool craft which was lead by cmdr lisa lee. Now the boys won’t simple throw an axe at you when u ask them to pass u one. Hahaha =p

Then we had our lashing session and then off for lunch. After lunch, the rangers had their compass merit where they are given a compass and a sheet with coordinates. The rangers were walking arnd in circles till they reach their destination. All in all, the rangers learnt quite alot.

Now now, after all this, of course we’re at the finale of our camp and like previous Discovery Camp, it is a must to have a round of limbo rock. It is kinda a tradition of Discovery Camp already as of recent years.

G'day mate!

Yes...for the millions of fans who missed me...I'm glad to let you know that the Boss is back in town!! Thanks for your prayers and well-wishes throughout my little adventure Down Under. Its been an amazing getaway for me. The things I've seen and experienced...simply breath-taking! Will sharw with you guys more once I have the chance...I've got loads of stories to share and chocolates to spread the love! Haha....too bad. No kangaroos for you guys. Never trust a man who's initials are VC...:P

If you wanna claim your kangaroo soft toys, go find VC @ Melbourne or claim from the brother @ Kapar.

Not too long ago, in a far far away land...in the silence of the pristine rainforest of the Woods, KKB...all heaven broke loose when the forest was swamped by over 40 outdoor-loving and socks-rocking Adventure & Expedition rangers from Selangor #6! Suddenly the peaceful forest sounded like a riot/fun fair. But hey, thats just the start! The main objective of this camp was to cover 6 merits to help the rangers earn their Bronze & Silver medals and also to also give the newer rangers a fast-track. The next objective of this camp was to provide the rangers with an unforgettable outdoor & camping experience, and not forgetting...to have FUN! And true enough...being rangers, we did have lots of fun in the outdoors.

There's nothing like sitting around a campfire at night, enjoying a campfire-cooked meal, having a multitude of stars over your head, listening to the sound of the river and leaves (and your tent-mate snoring)...its an experience to savour. Ride The Storm...

Guess who's back??? WE'RE BACK!! Ok, that was easy...

Yup...we rode the storm, conquered the wilderness (camping resort), fought the insects, found a new pet monkey whom we named Rama, and came home with all our organs intact! What an achievement! Haha...all 45 went, all 45 returned! And what an amazing camp its been for all those who joined in the Adventure & Expedition Rangers Camp 2009!

I had an absolutely amazing time with the rangers at the camp. Going through the merit classes, watching them cooking their meals and the drama moments, beating them to a pulp during the water games (Hahahaha), and just enjoying nature together as rangers. Its tough to explain the feeling...you really ought to be there to know what it feels like to live a life of a ranger in the outdoors. The full camp blog post will be up soon, I promise...loads of pics and stories to tell!

And oh, not forgetting the Discovery Rangers Overnight Camp 2009! Man...these kids certainly pack a punch and run on pure adrenaline!! Yeap...the Boss was at both camps this time around to enjoy the best of both worlds! Haha...well, for those moments with the 20+ kids, it was pure fun and excitement all the way! Imagine having to battle these kids in a real-life 'counter-strike' situation...just one of the highlights of the camp. Will be telling the story soon enough. Stay tuned yea? :)

Yes...I'm finally back with another round of updates and event reports! And what better way to kickstart things with a post of the recently concluded Sel #6 Ranger Kids Day Camp! And here to share with you her experience is none other than the Camp Commander herself, Amy 'Super Cili Padi' Tan!

RR Selangor #6 Ranger Kids Day Camp, 21st February 2009!!! A total of about 70 kids came together and drove all the commanders upside down, inside up, frontside backside. Indeed it was a very remarkable day and a day filled with lots of FUN. I am sure all the kids had fun. As for me, I had a total blast on that day.

The theme for the camp was SUPERHERO and yes, of course we do have our very own appointed superhero mascots... Batman, Bee man?!?, Mrs. Incredibles, Catwoman. Check them out man. Haha. And all the kids were told to dress in their own favourite superhero costume for the council fire.

The kids started arriving as early as 8.30am, eventhough it was written 9am in the flyers, this shows how excited they were, and they arrived even before the helpers arrived.

There were five patrols, namely Superman, Ninja Turtle, Wong Fei Hung, Tarzan and Powerpuffgirls. We had an origami session and as well as a bolo tie making session, and to the competition station games and of course water games. The camp concluded with a time of council fire.

Personally, I would like to take this time to thank all the parents for allowing their children to attend this camp and for entrusting us with their children for the whole day. Really no joke taking care of kids ok???

Secondly, to all the commanders, E-rangers and helpers who helped out in this camp, seriously and again I would say, thank you for being so supportive over this camp Yes, Indeed it was a VERY tiring day, I ALMOST died, and maybe some of u might hav gone alittle cuckoo after that, haha, but I am sure the effort and the seed sowed today will definitely bear fruit in time to come.

And even as the registration kept coming in even till the night before, and we were definitely short of commanders and helpers, nevertheless, people like, Connie, Oscar, Kenneth, Kelsey, who are not in rangers came to the rescue. You guys are truly Friends of Rangers! :) Sorry if I’ve missed anyone out, but yah, thank you guys so much for your support. I am sure u guys had fun too right? Haha.

This is my testimony...At the beginning, I really did not expect a lot out of this camp, maybe because this is my first time handling it ( OF COURSE with MUCH MUCH help from Cmdr. Eric). But to be honest, what I told God was, just let the attendance be more than the previous year's camp. 1 or 2 more extra, I don’t care. As long as there's growth and MORE kids compared to the previous year’s, and that will be enough for me.

Because I don’t see how its possible for parents to actually trust us with their kids. But even as we did our promotion in tadika seri cahaya and children church, unexpectedly, the calls kept coming in after that. I tell you arrr, since then my phone has never stopped ringing! It was a abit 'kuacheong', but its something like tht larh. Even in classes, and since then lecturers thought that I am a business women or something....haha.

Even as the calls kept comin in, I know that God is trying to tell me that nothing is ever impossible for Him, and asked me to expect more from Him and since then, I’ve constantly been asking God for more. Yes, true enough, we reached 71 kids for the camp and it was double the attendance compared to the previous year, and I even came to the point where, I am about to take back what I said.

Out of 71 kids, 59 of them were newcomers and I think most of them were from non-Christian families. Isn’t that AWESOME?! Out of the 59 kids, about 42 of them were from tadika seri cahaya alone. What an awesome opportunity to share with the kids about the true Superhero...Jesus!

Special thanks to aunty Ajunta for giving us the opportunity to reach out to the kids in the tadika, thank you for your cooperation, and you never failed to say YES to us, eventhough those yes-es might create more work for you (collecting money and forms, giving out the checklist and of coz somewhat being responsible to the parents if anything goes wrong). Thank you and God bless!

Not only that, juz last Sunday, we had 17 newcomers from the camp joining us for our rangers meeting. OMG, seriously no joke, they are all hyper, Cmdr Eric should start worrying right now. :) hahaa...

Well, to be able to impart something good and Godly in the lives of the kids and show them who their superhero really is. I can say that this camp was a total success. Keep up the good work, you guys are totally great.

*n yeah, those small size ppl, if you want any cute shirt, there's alot of really cute ones from the camp not claimed by anybody. Hahaha. they are really cute, n the good thing is..i can fit in them... weeeee.. haha! Thank you all once again and God bless!

A tribute to a special group of people who came together, got our hands dirty, worked like a horse and donkey all day long, paid in peanuts, ran around like monkeys, dressed up in funny outfits, blessed the kids and most importantly...they made this day possible for the kids!

Yup, you got that right!! So, do join us this Saturday, 21st February at 9am - 8.30pm in MPH2 GTAK for a time of ultimate fun and games with the kids (5-8 yrs old!) and come meet all your favourite superheroes in real life!! Have a blast speaking to them, taking loads of photos with them, and learn what it takes to be a superhero in God's kingdom!

Haha...just kidding...

I Believe I Can Fly...

And so...another bird decides to leave the nest!

Good afternoon rangers and friends from all over the world. How do you do? I hope you're having a breezy afternoon, takin' it easy and enjoying life along the way. Today's post is specially dedicated to someone special, who has gone on to the next chapter in his life. Someone who dared to pursue his dreams with determination and patience, and now he's on his way to become the first pilot in our outpost. This post goes out specially to ranger Kevin Chin! *clap clap*

For your info, Cmdr. Kevin Chin is now currently pursuing his studies to be a (fighter/terrorist/MAS) pilot in Langkawi MAS aviation academy. Awesome-ness!!

We had everything ready for his farewell party (which also happened to be Valentine's Day). Was kinda tired out having ANOTHER surprise party...so we just decided to tell him about his surprise party. Well, we sorta' told him that the boys are taking him out for dinner, but when we all showed up in his house, he had absolutely no reaction or questions. How typical of him...haih. Well, basically all the single and available ones showed up on that day...it was like a Singles Awareness Day thingie...haha.

Anyway, everyone showed up on time and there was loads of food and drinks to feed the whole of Kapar...all thanks to Mr. Vincent Chin and his Aussie $$$!!! Woo hoooooo!!! What do to? Its a small sacrifice to make for a brother rite? Haha...and also, thanks to very very persuasive friends like Eric and Reuben. So anyway, if you guys wanna have a party and are running short of $$$, just give him a call k? I'm sure he's got some loose change to spare us...

A Chinese New Year to Remember...

Good evening rangers! (more like midnight, actually!)

Hope you're all fast asleep by now...you had better be! Dont let me catch you here online at this hour ok? If not somebody's going to get hurt pretty bad...:) Just kidding. Anyway, always remember...Early to bed, early to rise, makes a ranger strong, wealthy and wise! Ok...I know a few of you are going, "That's so cheesy...", but its soooo true! If you want to be as strong, wealthy and wise as your commanders....time for you to start sleeping early! And I dont mean early in the morning like 2am or 3am...:)

Well, now that CNY is over and done with, and all the angpow packets are opened or either thrown away, I feel its a good time to just recap on what happened over past couple of weeks. On January 18th 2009, the Expedition Rangers of Sel #6 had our very own mini-CNY celebrations! And yes, not only was it a day fill with fun and laughter, it was also a very educational day for all of us...The theme of the day was RED, and the aim was to explain and enlighten the rangers about everything special and unique about the Chinese New Year celebration! Truly a day not to forget....and thanks to Cmdr Kenny's pics, you can be sure that the memories will last for a long time!

Here's the ER commanders getting things started with a time of opening parade.

Here's our beloved ER age group...interestingly, one patrol came in red, while the other came in white. Well done lads...points earned for unity and patrol spirit!

"What do I do?" Trisha looks confused...as always.

To get things started, we gave everyone a groudnut treat! The objective of the opening game was to peel all the kacang tanah and to collect the most number of groundnuts.

It was just kecoh, I'm telling you...never have you seen ppl so enthusiastic about groundnuts!

While some peeled, some counted...and some ate. :)

And so, after finding ourselves a winner, it was time to visit the zoo and feed the monkeys! Here we go, lads...its time to throw the peanuts into your patrol members mouth! Here we have James and Bryan in action!

Ever noticed how big Bryan's mouth is? And on the other hand, James is wondering what happened to the grounut...where did it go?

See laa...this is what happens when you dont have your lunch before RR. You actually start looking for food to eat from the dustbin. Kesian...

Okok...enough of monkey-food stuff. Time to bring out the big guns. And so, up next...we had our very own Chinese tea sifu and he comes all the way from mainland China, Kapar. Presenting you...the more Chinese version of Cmdr. Kenny and his chinese tea ceremony story! Looks so elegant with his 'to-chang'...that pig-tail thingie...

Its either they were really concentrating hard or posing for the camera...Yi Jia and Michelle!

As usual...Su vien was hungry, Casovia and Debbie were playing it cool all day...

Here's our sifu preparing a round of chinese tea for some of the rangers to savour...everything looks so elegant and simply awesome! Cmdr Kenny explained to the rangers the purpose and reason why the Chinese tea ceremony is such an important part of the Chinese culture. He also showed the rangers how to properly prepare a nice warm pot of tea...:)

Next up...we explained one of the greatest mysteries in the Chinese culture...the LION DANCE and the ANGPOW! According to history, at an appointed time a great beast would appear and consume a human as part of a peace offering by the villagers. Here we see Cmdr Kenny face to face with the ugly beast we know as the Lion. And the cool part is, our lion can dance too! :)

Our lion was causing havoc and frightening the marbles out of our rangers! Especially with that hideous blue 'shark-attack' face! Haha...

And so, to defeat the beast...the villagers found out that the lion has a weakness. It was afraid of the red packet that we commonly know as Ang Pow! And so...the villagers came up with a game plan on how to kill the dragon once and for all!

And hey...it was also Simon Yap's birthday! And how cool...he gets to be served tea by his favourite Cmdr. Zhi Fung!! Haha...blessings throughout the year, man!

"Ahh...finally my brain cap is back to where it belongs!" Cmdr. William proudly informs us.

So now that brain cap is back to its rightful owner and position, its all smiles at the end of the day. :)

Not bad...RR gives you Ang Pow some more!! Woohoo...if you all want more of it, let me know ok? I can still print some for you. And if you're nice to cmdr Daniel, he'll probably do one design for you...imagine your cash notes with our faces on it. How cool!!!

Good evening, rangers.

For many of us, this post is way overdue! But hey, its never too late to share with you our life's experiences and memories that will last us a lifetime! On the 15th of Dec 2008, a total of 14 young, exhuberant and totally nutty-fied rangers and youths from our church endured and experienced the adventure of their lives! All 14 lived to tell the tale...and so, here I am...speaking to you as one of the survivors. This is my story. This is our story...Our Mount Kinabalu Expedition!

Our trip began on the 14th of December. We spent the night in the beautiful Kinabalu Park, which is also listed as one of the World's Heritage Site. Its just an amazingly beautiful resort...set within the pristine green lusheous forest, the majestic peak of Mt. Kinabalu shadowing us from a distance, the smell of fresh air...awesome!! And so we spent the night preparing ourselves for the climb...getting the much needed rest and preparing ourselves mentally by playing 'Mafia' all night long. How cool! :)

Here's the group looking all excited and happy at the prospect of scaling up the highest peak in South East Asia! I can assure you...none of us were smiling like this the very next day! Haha...

There's nothing quite like sitting around in front of a fireplace (no fire of course!) with your fellow climbing partners, packing up those pounds over a scrumptious packet of maggi mee and hot drinks, and whalloping your friend's chocolates!

Distributing the goodies and energy bar needed for our climb...Ladies, here's a perfectly fine excuse for you to gobble down all these sinful chocolates in huge amounts!

Here's the group pic at the base camp, just after collecting our tags. Notice the magnificent mountain peak in the background? That was our target!

So here's basically the outline of the trip. Its a 6km walk to the halfway point (Laban Rata). From there, its another 2.5km hike up to the peak in freezing temperatures! Up and down...a total of 17km! So all in all, its took us almost 16 solid hours of hiking to conquer this mountain, up and down! Well, for some...it took then almost 24 hours! Haha...let's not mention who ok?

At the start of the hike...instead of Selamat Datang, they should change it to "Turn back NOW! This Could be Your Biggest Regret..." Haha...

And so, glad to say that all 14 made it to the halfway point...but everyone had their own share of frustrating and victorious stories to share. Generally, the story of the day was about cramps, fatigue, hopelessness, giving up...and also perserverance, takin it like a (wo)man, no pain no gain, and reaching the goal set before us!

This shot was taken at 2am in the morning. Yes, its freezing 7 degress at night! During my previous climb, the weather dropped to almost 4 degrees at night! And this was only at the halfway point!!! This is prob colder than most winter days...

And so, after having our dinner at 4pm on 15th Dec, after a nice warm shower, it was time to hit the sacks...at 6pm! Tell me la...how to sleep at 6pm? Not everyone's as gifted as Kevin Lee ok? Haha...anyway, we tried hard to sleep. Our push to the summit commenced at 2am on the 16th of Dec. After a round of midnight supper, it was time for the final hurdle...

Have you ever seen something as beaufitul and lonely as this? Its just miles of rock formations that seem endless and magnificent...it came to a point where you began to imagine...and realize how tiny you are in all of God's creation? And yet, you're the most precious of all creation?

And so, after nearly 10 hours of hiking, we finally made it all the way to the TOP!!! First to make it to the top is our dear Ms. Wong Tzi Li! Guess she must have popped some pills before the hike to make it to the top way ahead before many of us! Here she is, seen with her personal porter and guide, Mr. Daniel Seliong! Haha...

Mr. Simon Kong and GMA boy, Mr. Kevin Chin! Congrats, guys...definitely an achievement to be proud of and not taken lightly!

Next up, Mr Shaun Lim, Reuben Ponnian and Jason Ponniah! Steady la, Chindians...and Sheep man! Second time at the top always feels better! :)

Due to some technical issues and problems with the engine, the group was split into two. So here's the 1st group waiting patiently for the 2nd group (the remaining 4 climbers) to arrive. Sitting up there in the cold was like sitting in a freezer, literally! :) It was so cold that Shaun brain suffered brainfreeze...and he really couldn't think!

Woo hoo!! RR Selangor #6 at the peak of Mount Kinabalu...every climber who made it to the summit remembers these 2 popular signboards. Definitely the most photographed object at the summit! Some of us were so overcome with emotions, we just wanted to cry...especially William Ong and Kevin Chin :)

At last! Just when we thought all hope was gone, here comes the Super Troopers!!! Hurrah...hurrah!!! The crowd went wild and cheered them on all the way to the top! Well done, lads...

And so, after conquering the summit, it was finally time for us to go back down to the base camp. Man...it was raining all the way ever since we started our climb the day before! Conditions were just bad...our shoes and socks were wet, gloves soaking wet, fingers numb, brain freeze, underwear also wet...we just wanted to get back down! But at least now can smile a bit la...

The rock formations were simply unbelieveable! Simply breath-taking and keeps you going "Wow..."

Here's half the team spending some time at the distance signage near the top. Everytime we see one of these boards, it always brings a sigh of relief...cauz it basically tells us that we're getting closer and closer to our goal!

Phew! What a relief to be back in Laban Rata! And we're only halfway down....man!! Just look at Shaun's expression. Like a real stone...:)

Well, needless to say...all 14 of us made it back down to base camp safely by 5pm. Truly, we thank God for His protection upon the team throughout the entire journey, and also for the many people back home in GT who have been praying for us all the way. From the bottom of our hearts...Thank you God bless each and everyone of you!

Well, just to give you an update of what's happening in and around the world...well, actually only one significant event happened thats worth mentioning about!

Fyi, our dearest Cmdr. Vincent Chin celebrated his 27th birthday yesterday on the 29th of Jan!! Yes, this old turkey is finally 27 and ready for marriage! He's single, very much available, and comes fully loaded with Aussie dollars! For those interested, please send in your resume to rrsel6@gmail.com. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified. :) Important criteria for potential suitors: Must be able to eat and talk about BKT for 365 days and not get bored. Must be able to understand when he speaks fast. :)

Once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Cmdr. Vincent Chin! He's our honorary RR overseas PR Coordinator, based in Melbourne. He's the oldest of the Chin boys, and his new hobby is eating forbidden fruits. *hint*

Even as we usher in the year of the Ox, let's all strive harder to work hard like a buffalo, to make less excuses and not give our bull-talk, and let's not laze around and graze on grass all day long like a bunch of well-fed cows. :) Remember...as strong as an Ox!

Since everyone's in the mood of giving out $$$ & Angpows this CNY, the E-Rangers commanders of Sel #6 recently released their limited edition new RM notes! Definitely a collectors item! With all the ecomonic turmoils and uncertainties happening all around the globe, we've decided to do something really special this new year to help you relieve your burden and worries. And the best part is...if you want it, just go ahead and print it! How much $$$ you plan to collect this CNY, depends on your printer and ink. You can even print millions if you're hardworking! Haha...

Mission Project Medal Achievers...

Hello rangers!

*Yawn* Such a long and tiring weekend...and of all things, today had to be a Monday la! Man...I've felt many things in my life, but today was definitely a Garfield day...really felt like sleepin' in today. I'm sure you understand what I mean rite? This only applies to those who have work, school or college. For those of you who sleep and only wake up after lunch, better enjoy your life while it lasts! :)

Just to give you some updates on what's been happening over the past 2 Sundays...Oh well, now that everything's settling down fine, and everyone's been separated to their patrols accordingly, we're ready to get down to business! Its gonna be a good long year, I reckon. Remember, 2009 is officially 'Love Your Commander' year...haha. So make sure to show us your love, ok rangers? I like chocolates *hint*

On the 11th of Jan 2009, a total of 17 rangers and commanders were awarded the 'Mission Medal' last Sunday during the Opening Ceremony of our RR meeting. Throughout the years, these rangers and leaders have shown an examplary desire to attend local and overseas mission trip and truly have a heart for missions. Their faithfulness over the years to serve and bless the people of Sabah and Sarawak has truly paved the way for many other trips and inspired many to follow in their footstep. And we pray that even as the years go by and as age catches up, that we will still be as fervent as ever to serve God in the mission field, and be a blessing to His people.

Yup...the time now is 1.35am, and it certainly feels like a good time to blog eh? Sorry for the silence. Its been a hectic first week of 2009 for me...well, I hope you kids had a 'fun' time going back to school after all those months of rotting at home and putting on weight...doing absolutely nothing eh! Haha...must have been a real drag, I reckon. Oh well, always remember this...be the SALT and LIGHT wherever God has placed you in this time of your life. Be it in school, in college, in Uni, at your workplaces, in your community, in your families...be the ONE that makes the DIFFERENCE! Like a city on a hill...that's what we gotta be!

Now I'm sure we all remembered the absolute fun and laughter we all had last sun, rite? RR Homecoming and Registration Day 2009...what a crazy day its been! Gosh, I missed each and every one of you! With over a hundred rangers and leaders swarming in MPH2...the place was simply buzzing with excitement! And I'm sure we all had fun going through the medical stations and all eh? Having our eye-sight tested, blood pressure measured, pulse rate counted, hand-eye coordination test, etc etc etc. Some even tried to cover up their weight by telling the commanders that there was a prob with the weighing scale! Haha...you ppl! Every year, there's always some new excuses being born. Amuse us, please!

Person with the highest blood pressure - Cmdr. Zhi Fung (153 / 80). Pls keep him in prayers! :)

Cmdr William came close to breaking ZF's measurement...due to external 'high voltage' factors.

Oh...and not forgetting the absolutely, professionally, meticulously, superbly photo station ran by Cmdr. Kenny, Daniel and Vincent Chin! Man...you guys should really hit it big time as freelance photographers! Hats off to each of you.

Well, even as we started off the new year with a plate of Indo mee telur mata kerbau and teh ais (and some goals), it also marks another year where we kickstart the birthday celebrations all over again! And to get the ball rolling, we had 2 of our upcoming commanders who celebrated their 19th birthday in the same week! How cool...all we need to do is to buy them 1 present, and get them to share it. :) Save money la...times are bad.

Happy birthday to Cmdr. Simon Kong who celebrated his 19th BIG DAY on the 7th of Jan 2009. Among the leaders, he's the first to celebrate his big day! God bless, bro. Have a break, have a fortune cookie, and most importantly...share the cake with us!

And to my lovely Cmdr. Cheryl Lim...who so happens to be the only one to actually send us her birthday reminder without fail every year. She celebrated her 19th birthday on the 9th of Jan (yesterday). She's so paranoid that all her friends and commanders will forget about her big day. But hey...continue to shine for him and train up the rangers in the way of the Lord.

Ok la friends...I think its time for me to sleep. Already slowly seeing stars and the moon...and I think I better split the scene before the big old sun rises again. Its been an amazing day for me! God is good...all the time. Truly. Continue to walk on in faith and in His righteousness.
