VAA VAA VOOOMMM!!!!

That's how fast the year went!

Welcome back to our RR Selangor #6 blog!

The former boss, current ex-boss, needed to take a break from his duty as he is now happily married to his beautiful lawyer wife who doesn't allow him to blog in fear that he might leak out some important "evidence" to the social media *gasp*
so from now on, The Lady Boss, will take over the Ex-Boss's blogging duty
because as we all know ladies are more analytic and are better at elaborating stories *Can I hear an amen!*
plus they will make the blog sexier ;)

but before we look forward to an even abundant and exciting (sexy) year ahead, let's look back on the few major events of the past year and be fueled with the passion to achieve even greater things for God through the Royal Rangers ministry...

ER BBQ Partaayyy!
22nd December 2012

With the year at an end and having survived 21.12.2012,  the Expedition Rangers of Selangor #6 came together to celebrate by throwing a Barbecue Party! and you know what that meanssss?!?!
FOOODDD!!! Speak of all the chicken wings, ramly burgers and burnt fishballs we had!

It was a feast fit for a king!

But of course a feast or a party doesn't just happen or pop out of nowhere! Here's what our party planner, Kenneth Tan has to say:

Kenneth Tan as a Kuda Kepang Warrior in #camporama2012
I learned and gained a lot of experience planning this ER bbq party. For me, this is the 1st time planning something this big! As an inexperienced planner, I was worried whether I could cope with such a big responsibility so i asked help from Cmdr Kenny and he guided us through it. I felt happy that everyone enjoyed the bbq party. The laughter and smile on everyone's faces made me feel that it was worth going through the planning although it was tough. The biggest problem though, was the uncertainty of the number of people attending the bbq party. A group of us (Scott, Zico, Jonathan, Cmdr Kenny, Cmdr Zhi Kai and me) went to mamak at ight to plan. And on a separate night, we went to Tesco to buy food and ingredients. We had a great time together. I hope everyone had a good time and enjoyed themselves, and I hope I will have another chance to plan events like this again. Thank you!

Food aside, we also had a fun time of gift exchange - with a twist! Everyone was asked to bring a present of RM10 and after a long-confusing-gift-exchange-rules-explanation-that-you-most-probably-wouldn't-understand-even-if-i-explained-it-here the Dirty Santa game begun! Okay, well the gist of the game is that the gift you get at first may not necessarily be yours because the people that are lined up after you have the liberty to exchange their gift with yours. SOOOO, if you chose a super nice gift like a RM20 angpau (which we really had!) or a Reebok Water Tumbler, BEWAREEE as your gift will most probably be taken away from you! anddd we also had a bag of tangerines! (where did that come from?). And so we had a fun time seeing people choose very nice gifts and have it taken away from them. You should see the look on their faces! Priceless
But even though our initial gift may end up as someone else's, at the end of the day it was the fun, laughter and company that truly mattered. Plus, we ended up sharing the bag of tangerines!

So a big shout out! to Kenneth, his team and everyone who came and made the party happen. Truly, it wouldn't be as fun without you and even as we end the year on a high note, let's look forward to greater things ahead in the year 2013 as we continue to grow in the Lord as a ministry.

Sel #6 25th Annivesary
10th November 2012

Royal Rangers Outpost Selangor #6 was started by Pastor Roy Tan and Cmdr. Alvin Tan, then under the leadership of Senior Pastor Rev. Dominic Chan, on 9th September 1987. 25 years down the road, we have seen this ministry grow in numbers and strength. Through God's blessings, Selangor #6 is now one of the main Royal Rangers outpost in the Central District with some of its leaders serving In the Royal Rangers Malaysia National Committee, taking up leadership positions at various National or District Royal Rangers events.

In remembering God's unending faithfulness towards the rangers ministry, we celebrated our 25th anniversary on the 10th of November 2012, gathering rangers young and old alike and even from various outposts across the Central District.

The evening started off with the serving of dinner with everyone then proceeding to the sanctuary where the night really begun! Holding the Rangers Flag, the 4 GMA recipients of Sel#6 for the year 2012 marched in to the drum beat. After reciting the rangers pledge we were then led into a time of praise followed by the recognition of our 4 newest GMA holders, Carissa Lim, Debbie Lam, Michelle Lee and Trisha Ching. Trisha also earned the Gold Buffalo award. Then, there was  preaching of the word by our Senior Pastor, Ps. Lau Moong Som. Then it was the time all the rangers were waiting for *drumrolls*.... The Council of Achievement!

Junior Training Camp
14th-17th November 2012

And so they overcame!
Our very own JTC graduates! (From Left: Cmdr Eric Teh, Scott, Jia Wei, Matthias, Nicholas, William, Adam, Hans, Isaiah,
Shannon, Travis, Benedict, Celeste, Pei Yan, Keerthana)

14 brave and bold rangers from Selangor #6 joined the infamous JTC, conquered and came back victorious! We were also proud to have 2 of our very own cmdrs, Cmdr Reuben Ponniah and Cmdr Eric Teh as Camp Trainers.

JTC is a camp that trains boys in camping techniques and outpost leadership and is conducted in an outdoor setting. Our rangers went through tough times, building their campsite, coming up with patrol songs and yells, getting to bathe only once in 4 days! (though some felt really proud of it), learning to stay as a patrol and live together as one. They learnt how to work as a team, support their patrol members and matured along the way. Rising to the occasion, Selangor #6 is indeed very proud of each one of them and we believe there's greater things installed for them even as they emerge as young men and women of God.

All clean and ready to set off for camp!

Morning Parade

Congratulations once again from all of us here in Selangor #6!
May all of you continue to mentor, lead and be a blessing to the many people around you.

Royal Rangers Malaysia
30th Anniversary
3rd November 2012
By Cmdr. Eric Teh (RR Malaysia - National Staff)

The year 2012 marked a significant year for Royal Rangers Malaysia. We have seen God’s faithfulness for the past 30 years and how the ministry has touched many lives and still continue to minister to the young generation. The year was embraced with many events led by National namely the 8thNational Leaders Conference, Rangers Give Back Programme, 6th National Camporama and to end the year, we had the Royal Rangers 30th Anniversary Dinner Celebration where 520 rangers and commanders came to celebrate the event at Hai Thiam Lo Restaurant on the 3rd of November 2012.

The event was graced by our National Director, Rev Gideon Lee with the support of the previous National Directors who also joined us in the joyous event. During the event, there were many flashback moments as videos of the past camps, events were highlighted during the dinner. I am proud to say that Selangor #6 has been there in supporting all the events planned and has truly impacted the ministry even in the national level. Kudos to all! :)

Olympikids
15th September 2012
By Cmdr. Melissa Tan (Camp Commander - Ranger Kids camp 2012)

In conjunction with the London 2012 Olympics, we have decided to keep the excitement rolling with this year’s Ranger Kids Day Camp. With the theme “Olympikids” for the camp, we find that it is an opportunity to promote the values of Olympics to the kids via the various activities and games planned

The values are:

Respect – fair play; knowing one’s own limits; and taking care of one’s health and the environment
Excellence – how to give the best of oneself, on the field of play or in life; taking part; and progressing according to one’s own objectives
Friendship – how, through sport, to understand each other despite any differences
The excitement was clearly evident before the camp when we had an overwhelming response from the kids. We initially targeted 70 kids but we would like to thank God for giving us more than expected - we have 108 kids signed up for this camp. Activities that were fun and engaging were planned out for the kids. Among the activities are patrol corner, sand painting, station games and water games.

The kids were split to 4 groups, which is Australia, China, Great Britain and USA - each led by a commander to learn their song and yell. The kids then proceed with sand painting and each of them has a photo taken at the photo booth set up in the hall displaying their master piece :) some kids even pushed themselves to complete two sand painting crafts within the same allocted time!

One of the highlights of this year’s Ranger Kids Day Camp was definitely the station game. It set the participant against a series of challenging tasks, ranging from fanning a ping pong ball into the box, shooting figurines with a BB Gun, stacking ping pong balls with only one hand and paper cup, coconut bowl and electric buzz. Shouts and screams of excitement erupted at every station throughout the game.

Not forgetting the all time favourite, water games! The kids were set to compete against each group in the tele-matches game. They had a fun and enjoyable time playing with their friends and the water balloons.

The camp ended with council fire with the kids presenting their song and yell to their parents, story telling led by our senior commander, Jason Ponniah and the prize giving ceremony.

All in all, I would like to thank God for the safety of the kids (Everyone went home safe and to the right family!) and the ever-helpful Commanders and Expedition Rangers for making this camp a success. So in a word, the camp was a BLAST!

Camporama 2012
30th May - 2nd June 2012
"Towards Greater Things - Haggai 2:9"
Honk! Honk! Honk! With a car that bears a RM520,000 car plate (money enough to supply bkt for a lifetime!), "Sultan of Johor", His Majesty Nelson Suresh and his lovely wife "Datin Siti Nurhaliza" ruled the royal grounds of which was Selangor #6 - Johor City!

With Lego Land as our pride, chewing-gum-deprived-'Singaporeans' as our visitors, kuda kepang as our most famous cultural performance and so much more, many of us will look back and remember the 6th Malaysia Camporama of 600+ campers and 4 cities (Johor, Perak, Kelantan, Sarawak) as one with vivid memories and wonderful experiences!

Now to take a trip down memory lane...
The advance party building 'Rome' in a day!

Simon as the famous Lego man

The Sultan's kompang troop/bodyguards

and we were the DODGEBALL CHAMPION!! JOHORRR!!

Kuda Kepang boys getting ready for their presentation

Of course not forgetting the Camp Highlights and Games! We had altogether 7 highlights and 10 games where campers were allowed to participate for as many times as they like, setting high scores as they play and winning awesome prizes at the end of the day! The younger ones were especially thrilled by the "Moto GP", where they had the chance to cycle at a pre-designated course on a KMX Bicycle (and not wanting to get off the bike!)

                Horizontal Bungee                                                      Sticky Wicky Whacky

              Nut Scraper                                                                       Electric Buzz

But amidst all the adrenaline pumping activities, the night rallies still remained the best part of camp as everyone was led into amazing time of praise and worship followed by impactful sermons, spirit-filled altar calls and life-changing experiences. Nothing can quite describe how fulfilling it is seeing rangers as young as 8-years-old, worshiping and responding to the Lord.

And to top it all off! We had three GMA recipients, Carissa & Trisha from Sel #6 and Charmaine from Sel #1. Pastor Gideon mentioned that the GMA represents strength in character as well as a symbol of all they have accomplished in Royal Rangers. We are truly excited to see what they will become in the future!

And here it is! The four cities that made up the 6th Malaysia Camporama. Surely everyone had fun getting to meet new people and experience new cultures as we spent 4 fun-filled days and 3 spirit-filled nights together.
It's truly an experience of a life time, one that you should NEVER miss out! So even as we look forward to greater things ahead, we hope to see you in the next Camporama as we continue to learn, serve and grow as a body of Christ.

Even as we've summed up the year 2012, do continue to pray for Selangor #6 and the Royal Rangers ministry as we continue to do greater things and achieve greater heights for our Master Ranger.
