Hero Of The Day...

Good day, rangers and friends!

Even as we're halfway through another busy week and one that's full of drama and excitement (especially for all my SPM-ers), here's an inspiring story of an 8-year old hero who risked his life to save another. Truly, as the scriptures says...

John 15:13 - Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his brother.

Boys Receive Medals for Saving Friends From Drowning

Two Tyler brothers and their friend were presented with the Royal Rangers' highest medals of honors for saving the lives of two drowning boys.

"We appreciate you boys more than you will ever know," Rev. Charles Plunkett said Sunday during the awards presentation. "We applaud you for so much that you have accomplished so far. But we know that the greatest is yet to come."
During a ceremony held at the Victory Assembly of God, Jordan Husketh, 8, was awarded the Medal of Valor for saving a life at his own risk. Jordan was swimming in his back yard with three neighborhood friends on Memorial Day, when two of his friends, who couldn't swim, drifted too far into the deep end of the pool.

Jordan, seeing his friends were in need, jumped in after them.

"What amazes me is that Jordan at eight years old, to think so good and to dive in to help them. He swam over, got Logan and pulled him to the side of the pool and went back for Alex," Jordan's father and Tyler Section Royal Rangers Sectional Commander Kevin Husketh said.
Jordan was able to pull one of the struggling boys over to the side, he went back to get the second friend but was pulled under.

The first friend who Jordan saved then jumped in after him and all three boys were struggling in the middle of the pool.

Jordan's mother saw part of the scene unfold from a window inside the house and began screaming for help from her other son and is friend, 16-year-old Joshua Husketh and 17-year-old David Woodbury.

Mrs. Husketh was unable to swim. The teens sprang into action ran to the pool and threw flotation devices to the drowning boys and was able to pull the three boys out of the water.

"We didn't believe it at first, but when Gina (Mrs. Husketh) had the serious look on her face, we bolted," Woodbury said.

Outside he saw the boys bobbing in the water faces red and eyes bulging.

"It was great to be there to save them. If we had not been there, there would have been three less boys in the world," Woodbury said.

Joshua Husketh and Woodbury were both awarded the Medal of Courage for saving a life and no risk to their own.

All of the boys attribute the training they received as a Royal Rangers for their quick action during the emergency.

The Royal Rangers is a ministry in 65 nations that motivates boys spiritually through Bible study and memorization of devotionals and Christian role models. The ministry also includes outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and rappelling that strengthen the boys physically.

"I'm just so proud of these boys, my heart just swells every time I think of it," Husketh said.
Tyler Mayor Barbara Bass spoke at the ceremony telling the boys that their work and actions were admirable.

"In life there are two decisions we make that are life altering. The first is to accept Christ as our savior and the second is to live the life that is for him. With what you are doing you have taken the step to do onto others as you would have them do unto you," she said. "Each of you are to be commended,"

Five other boys received other medals and certificates of achievement. Bronze medal recipients included Chris Schultz, 14, of Frankston, Kim Ortega, 15, of Tyler, David Woodbury, 17, of Tyler.

Certificates of achievement recipients included: Chris Schultz, Eddie Schultz, 17, of Frankston, Kim Ortega, Jordan Husketh, John Parker, 11, Leland Parker, 9, David Woodbury, and Joshua Husketh.

Have a super-duper pumpkin smashing week ahead, friends! I'll see ya around soon enough...God bless!
