Gua Tempurung Escapade 2008...

Ahoi mates! Sudah berbuka puasa???

Ahh..the long overdue Gua Tempurung Adventure story...bet you've been waiting and drooling for this story eh? Sorry mates...puasa month. Everything kinda' slows down for me! :) So far so good. Didn't get questioned or refused service at a restaurant during the 1st week.

Just to refresh your failing memory...last Monday, a total of 16 adventure-junkies and life-lovin' RR leaders and E-Rangers decided to spend our first day of Hari Raya Puasa berbuka puasa-ing & caving in the splendid Gua Tempurung, all the way in Gopeng! The day started way to early for some of us...gathered in church at 7am. Even the chickens were still asleep...public holiday, some more. But chill...everyone was so stressed out with life, work, husband, wife, kids, pet dog....we just wanted to chill and let loose! Think about it...firstly, you get to go caving. Secondly, you get to wallop your friend in the cave when you turn out the lights! How cool is that??? Definitely my kinda' choice to release some stress...:)

And so...all 16 gathered, and left in our faithful church van and Cmdr. Andy's V8 Jaguar. As a tradition, we all stopped at our usual 'I Love You' mamak for breakfast...but too bad, it was closed. Dodgy name for a mamak...but anyway, we then headed to another nearby mamak restaurant for a quick and healthy dose of our Malaysian superfood...nasi lemak, roti canai and teh tarik! Definitely the best way to start off your day...gold medal surely coming soon...

And then something really crazy happened...

Right before our very eyes....

Never could we have imagined something as beautiful as this to happen...

And then....suddenly, there appeared...............

Taa daaaa!!! Nasi lemak WITH AYAM! The choice of champions (and cavers!)

The pack of hungry (good-looking) wolves and puppies...

Here's Cmdr. Andy saying a prayer for his STPM book...

And here's Cmdr. Eric saying a prayer for his safety and his life...looks like he's half asleep and praying...

And the crowd goes..."Amen!" Here's Papito Enrique doing what he does best...

And once you've had many years of experience and practice, you can even sleep with a gaya pose...leg folded and fingers resting on your prosperity belly. :)

And through it all...this guy was the one who really needed the sleep!

Finally...after two hours and a belly full of nasi lemak, we have arrived! What a relief...I mean, those kids in the backseat were going "are we there yet?" every 10 mins!!!

Hey hey...check out this piece of metal! Used by Sarjan Hassan back during the good ol' days...anyway, this would come in handy for Youth Camp fundraiser! Scrap metal!!! :)

And yes...once you've had too much to eat, its about time to burn some of those fats! Check out this air-shot! :) Not too sure what Daniel was up to...weird posture...

TWR - Top of The World and River Adventure! That's our package...

Well, since we had about 15 mins to chill before our turn to enter the cave, we decided to do what we do best...look good for the camera! :) A nice lil' group shot of us before we went all wild and crazy in the cave! Total of 16 rangers and leaders...photo was taken by Sheila!

Here's the ladies...doing the latest cool pose in town...led by Sheila, Grace, Sherlyn, Su Vien and yes...miss Kelly too! :)

Pei Jun, this one's for you...Bang Bang! Who died?? :)

And yes...more group photos...wat to do? Have to wait, so might as well smile (again) for the lense!

Oh yes...doesn't the cave look simply magnificent even right at the start?? Stairways to heaven...

Just look at how huge this cave is...total trekking length is about 2km! That's way too far for some of us! Haha...I think you can even fit a Boeing 737 in here wei...

Here's the thorns among the only rose...:) Peter Pedro, Stephen, Ben, Simon, Sheila aka Rose, Eric and Cmdr. Reuben! Still looking good, ppl...

Time to get on your knees and CRAWL!!! Oh yeaaaaa....everyone loved this part! Tell me who doesn't like to get wet??? :)

It was just awesome standing next to all these interesting rock formations, that took many many years to form its shape! Standing in there...you can only stare in awe and amazement at the beauty of nature and God's creation!

Yeay yeay! More chances to play with water, eh...it was just hilarious seeing the way some of them tried so hard not to get their pants wet...but in the end, no one was spared! The Bomba squad made sure of that...

Finally...after all those crawling and back-breaking moments, we arrived at a place to stand up straight and relax for a moment. And oh, the guide even told us at one point to turn off all our torchlights, just to see how dark can darkness be...and yes, I realised that when its dark...I cant be seen (even when I smiled)...and the same goes to the rest! :)

Naturally, once the lights were turned off, we all decided to give Mr. David Yap aka Papito Enrique a nice 'thai body massage'...we love you bro! :)

Hey hey...check this out! Half mermaid (or mer-man), and half dugong! Its Daniel Seliong...and just like in Revelations, he spoke and light came forth from his mouth! :)

Daniel, Su Vien and Grace having a moment to reflect and recuperate...

And yes, here's the boys...looking all wet and down-right sexy!

And here's the rest of the groupies...Andy, Kelly, Jason, David, Ben, Sheila and Reuben!

Here's Cmdr. Eric and Kelly having their own photoshoot session in Gua Tempurung...

Simon...wondering what in the world is he doing, all wet in a cave, on a public holiday...

Love is all we need...God's reminder to us that His love knows no boundaries or limits...

And so, after spending hours in the cave, it came to a point where everyone started to entertain themselves by looking for rock formations that looked like a certain object, for example...chicken drumstick, burger, pregnant lady, car and driver, osama bin laden....yup, osama was in the cave, alright! No wonder US couldn't find him...

Its a bit difficult to describe everything in words to you over here...the feeling of being there. Sometimes it feels like we're walking through a muzeum building, when in fact...its actually a really HUGE cave! I mean...the chambers in there are really...WOW! You must go there someday ok? This was my 4th trip in there!!

And yes...after spending nearly 3 hours in the cave, there's always light at the end of the tunnel! Lovely combination of the sunlight, the greenery at the entrance of the cave, and the redish-brown natural colour of the cave...

And here's Grace and Papito...according to Papito, she's Aunty Grace! :)

Ah well...here's what we love about being a ranger...playing in the river! :) Yeap...the rain was falling, we were wet...and what better way to celebrate our caving adventure by spending some time with good ol' friends in the river! :)

Here's the group getting all excited with the fact that a butterfly has decided to make Cmdr. Reuben's head its new home...

Ahhh...such a lovely sight. Here's my two 'Spanish' friends...Miguel Peter and Pedro Franz!

And so friends, we have come to the end of the 1st part of the caving trip diary! Its been a good, long relaxing getaway for all of us...being one with nature, and being surrounded by people that mean a lot to each one of us. Wanna know how we got all these excellent pictures while in the cave??? Many thanks to Cmdr. Sheila and her lovely baby, DSLR! Really appreciate her and Daniel Seliong for all their sacrifice in bringing the camera everywhere and keeping it dry along the way! Really good shots this time around! Thanks also to ranger Peter for some of the pics here in the blog...:)

And yes, like I mentioned...there will be a part 2 of this post. Got lots more interesting pics and stories to tell, especially concerning the 'Great Slide' and the 'Black Hole'....:) Stay tuned, pals!

Alright friends...its going to be a busy busy month of September for all of us! Stay focused, stay alive and always keep the faith! Remember...He will never leave you, nor forsake you. Jesus.

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14).
